Being filled with wonder

Several years ago I read an article written by the editor of a magazine about his wife who had recently died of cancer. Included was a picture of her standing next to a crude homemade sign that read “Be Wonder Full”. Her husband wrote a moving tribute, acknowledging this women’s courageous battle with a disease she refused to let define her. Through it all, he wrote, she remained positive, enjoying the time she had left with the people she loved and experiencing and accepting all the wonders the world had to offer.

What fills me with wonder?

  1. Looking into the eyes of the three women I love.
  2. My mom’s heart.
  3. Bumblebees, tadpoles and earthworms.
  4. Listening to Gregg Allman sing “Melissa”
  5. My dogs, why do they love me so much?
  6. The colors and imagination of Vincent Van Gogh.
  7. Cows and goats grazing in a lush green pasture.
  8. Rocks.
  9. A storms approach and the calm that follows.
  10. That I am here, wherever here is.

What fills you with wonder?

“Every moment of light and dark is a miracle.” – Walt Whitman

About ends and beginnings blog

I am a frustrated writer and poet waiting to be discovered. A stand-up philosopher performing on a street corner near you. A Christian with questions but I don’t want to hear your answers. A Buddhist with a bumper sticker on my truck to prove it. A collector of quotes. A grower of lettuce. The Patron Saint of earthworms who name their children after me. A cyclist whose big ass strains the seams of his Lycra bibs. I am American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. My goal in life is to leave an imprint on the lives of the people I love not a footprint on the earth. I am a son, a husband, a father composed of 65%-Oxygen, 18%-Carbon, 10%-Hydrogen, 3%-Nitrogen, 3%-Diet Coke and 1%-Oreo.

    My list:
    1) The sound of rain against the windows as I sit comfortably inside my house
    2) The smell of freshly cut grass
    3) The dawn chorus of birds when I push back the curtains at the start of a new day

  3. I love that you included your dogs. It definitely is a wonder how dogs can love so unconditionally and so constantly. Dogs are the best! 🙂
