Doing Laundry

A medium time ago I started doing my own laundry meaning, my shirts, my pants, my stuff. Our kids were teenagers and I figured my wife had enough on her plate so I decided I should be the responsible person to make sure I had clean socks and underwear each day. The reason I don’t do anyone else’s laundry is because of the clothes I own and my “style”, which I might add is very simple, you can thank me later, of washing and drying.

First, the clothes I own; I am partial to the following colors white, shades of brown, shades of tan (yes, despite what you have heard from the women in your life there are shades of tan) and shades of blue. My pants, real simple all cotton khakis in shades of tan bought three or four at the time, of course the same kind. Wear them out and soon they become yard pants. Blue-jeans, same drill, bought three or four at the time, wear them out, tada, yard pants. Shirts; golf shirts in various shades of blue or white. Button-down dress shirts; white and blue. Socks; white, brown, tan and blue. Underwear, white and clean for my mother in case I am ever in an accident.

I wear what I wear for a very simple reason, I am dull. If clothes make the man then you will need to find something else appealing about me. I like to dress in the morning, not think about dressing in the morning. What I wear requires very little thought blue shirt, khakis, tan socks ready to slay the dragons of the world.

This simple wardrobe also allows me to maximize the laundry experience. There is no need to separate colors, simply wash everything together, on hot and then dry, on high, for an hour. Chap-stick, pocket knives, coins, nails and screws will find there way out of my pants pockets during the drying cycle clean and fresh (except for the chap-stick). Fold, put in my own personal Dad laundry basket and I am done….D-O-N-E.

Washing my own clothes also gives me one other time advantage, since I wear the same thing every week, day in and day out I can simply dress out of my laundry basket each morning strategically located on the floor next to my dresser. No need to put anything in the draws or on a hanger, I am going to wear something in that basket in a day or two so why waste the energy.

So back to my opening statement, I don’t do anyone else laundry in our house. Do you need any further clarification?

So, do you have a lot of yard clothes? And that must mean you do yard work. So, you do your own laundry and yard work — your wife is a lucky woman!

Well, legend in your own mind…This woman washes and irons the clothes of and for her man, so he has the time to work very hard and earn money for -among a lot of other stuff, those clothes and then later on still has energy for showing me his legendary moves 😉
Funny similarity how we also use our jeans at some point as yard-pants and/or dirty-jobs-pants in the garage or to paint, etc.
