A Poem – See Me

I am here, under the bridge, you know I exist

On this corner, with the cardboard sign, pass me by

Talking to myself, standing in the rain, my life in a plastic bag

Baking in the sun, shivering in the cold, wearing all I own

I breathe as you do, I am human as you are, flesh and blood

I want, I need, I hurt, I hope, my tears are real

Has the world over looked me, the world turns without me

I live in your shadow, cast by the perception of needs and wants

With familiar faces, you listen to Sunday verses, from holy text

Are the lessons lost, words simply sounds in a sacred box

Where is your Jesus on Monday, the Savior you worship

If I were the face of God could you see it, would you take my hand

You see me, I am here, don’t turn away, you see me

About ends and beginnings blog

I am a frustrated writer and poet waiting to be discovered. A stand-up philosopher performing on a street corner near you. A Christian with questions but I don’t want to hear your answers. A Buddhist with a bumper sticker on my truck to prove it. A collector of quotes. A grower of lettuce. The Patron Saint of earthworms who name their children after me. A cyclist whose big ass strains the seams of his Lycra bibs. I am American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. My goal in life is to leave an imprint on the lives of the people I love not a footprint on the earth. I am a son, a husband, a father composed of 65%-Oxygen, 18%-Carbon, 10%-Hydrogen, 3%-Nitrogen, 3%-Diet Coke and 1%-Oreo.

    • Thank you Ms. Lively. I have tried my hand on several poems. Click the Poem category would be curious to know what you think of my “attempts”. At the end of the day they are just words, put together in rhyme and reason at least I hope they sound out a reason. I hope you are doing well love.

Complicated life we strive to live, live up to standards impossible. We all do our best and even the best fall victim to their own needs. Mother Theresa gave but felt so empty at the end. Who gave to her needs? She questioned the very God she served. We all ask why? Life is complicated. I hope I understood Theresa’s words. She had much wisdom and admiration. I hope she found peace. She did much to help others.

Very good poem, I like poems that actually have a message, a reason for being. This was a very good one, I enjoyed the read.

It is very sad.. because it’s true. Tears threaten.. but no. I do love it, a lot. Emotional.

I have a litany of emails to go through and often delete posts that I skim the first few lines if any at all. BUT.. I read this in its entirety and I’ll read it again in the hopes that it’ll stick and cause real change not just an emotional tug or a brain tickle.

That’s a powerful poem, well-written and listened to on this end. I think people ignore suffering out of fear. I know I have from time to time, or they just feel helpless to do anything or possibly paralyzed by fear. Still, your point is well taken.
