“I’m concentrating on staying healthy, having peace, being happy, remembering what is important, taking in nature and animals, spending time reading, trying to understand the universe, where science and the spiritual meet.” – Joan Jett
Every Monday morning I email my children a quote to start the week. I stumbled upon this gem recently in my ongoing quest to find fresh and relevant words to share with them.
For those of you unfamiliar with Joan Jett she is best known for her hit song “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” which encompasses the deep and philosophical chorus “I love rock n’ roll, So put another dime in the jukebox, baby, I love rock n’ roll, So come an’ take your time an’ dance with me”. Although I can honestly say this song probably wouldn’t even scratch my top 2,000 list of favorites I think it has made Ms. Jett a pretty decent living over the years.
In 32 words, Ms. Jett sums up a reasonable, and attainable I might add, path to well-being. I have looked it over for some missing ingredient and realized these 32 words were a reflection of her well-being and no one else’s. If you notice, there is nothing offered about other people, or family, this is simply about her focus, her direction, her path, and her state of being.
These 32 words resonate with me from the beginning to the end. I find myself in each point and tag. This is the place I want to be, a direction I need to head for and towards. These are words I would place on my tombstone, which I won’t have, or have tattooed on my back, if I weren’t so deathly afraid of needles. These words don’t simply move through the motion, they are the motion, like a wave you ride back to the shore. Do you get the point, I really like this quote a lot.
So Ms. Joan Jett I publicly apologize for taking you so lightly. I am glad to know that one mindless song with a good beat that’s easy to dance too didn’t sum up your position on life. Your view is more than just Rock ‘n’ Roll, so much more.
I saw him dancin’ there by the record machine, I knew he must a been about seventeen
The beat was goin’ strong, Playin’ my favorite song, An’ I could tell it wouldn’t be long
Till he was with me, yeah me, An’ I could tell it wouldn’t be long, Till he was with me, yeah me, singin’
I can’t get it out of my head, please make it stop!
Haha, well thank you — That song will now be with me for the rest of the day.
