The night was still, while the fan churned overhead
Blinds pulled tight, to keep the world from intruding
Sleep was the task on this bed my body aches for each evening
Seven hours broken into three segments of equal distance
So this old man can stumble out of slumber disturbing the cat
With a bladder full of the days liquids, cursing the demon of years
But a light shone through the cracks, between the sill and blinds edge
Brightly as I laid on my favorite side, pillow clutched in a romantic grip
My rest startled, comfort abandoned, by a light at two, sinking across my face
My covers provided no escape as I inched below their protection
Until this bright bulb sank into the shadows, beneath the roof tops high
Staring into distant windows of other old men roused by, a full moon dancing in the night
An original composition by the author of Ends and Beginnings
Very Nice. On a humorous note, we have this wonderful skylight right over our bed that is so nice at night as we view the stars so beautiful and so close. However, when the sun comes out and heats up… 😆
