Your mother put you in matching dresses
Pink bows with your bangs cut straight
Two different souls in colors hued as one
The search for togetherness captured in a still
I stare at this picture, two smiling young girls
Daughters of mine
Remembering moments long since passed
A collection by year, new dresses in each
Until, mom loses the battle, a rebellion of personalities
Personalities that shine forward and beyond today
The colors have changed, the individuals themselves
But the blood is thick, thickened by distance and time
We may have brought them in, but sisters they remain
Bonded by matching outfits of years past
Captured in wallet size photographs with a glossy finish
Bonded by the love of many and the experiences of two
This is a sisters love, this is a love only sisters can share
An original composition by the author of Ends and Beginnings
I have those pictures too, of my sister and I in the matching dresses…Easter Time – black & white photo, we had matching hats, pocketbooks, gloves, sock & shoes too! Memories we treasure and look back on…thanks for the reminder. Lovely poem about your daughters!! 🙂
