A Poem: Let me balance

Cairn

Let me balance on this earth, with arms cast like wings in the wind, spreading my legs for a firm grip, on rocks held high in the sky.

Let me balance on this earth, through pain and joy, with people who love and souls who hate, sharing ground and finding a place of peace.

Let me balance on this earth, upon a base of stones, a foundation built by those before as I will support those to come, a future left to unfold.

Let me balance on this earth, in days numbered in moments, a flash of time, quick to start, a distant middle, moving towards a quiet ending.

Let me balance on this earth, as ashes become dust, to a vacant space for one to fill, the dance is done, a cairn to mark my existence.

An original composition by the author of Ends and Beginnings

About ends and beginnings blog

I am a frustrated writer and poet waiting to be discovered. A stand-up philosopher performing on a street corner near you. A Christian with questions but I don’t want to hear your answers. A Buddhist with a bumper sticker on my truck to prove it. A collector of quotes. A grower of lettuce. The Patron Saint of earthworms who name their children after me. A cyclist whose big ass strains the seams of his Lycra bibs. I am American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. My goal in life is to leave an imprint on the lives of the people I love not a footprint on the earth. I am a son, a husband, a father composed of 65%-Oxygen, 18%-Carbon, 10%-Hydrogen, 3%-Nitrogen, 3%-Diet Coke and 1%-Oreo.
