“Meryl Streep, one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn’t know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes. She is a Hillary flunky who lost big. For the 100th time, I never “mocked” a disabled reporter (would never do that) but simply showed him “groveling” when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!” – Donald J. Trump Tweet January 9, 2017
Many of you have told me to move-on. I get it. But really how could I pass on this little nugget. I can’t, I simply can’t. During last night’s Golden Globes, Meryl Streep was presented with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award. Ms. Streep took the opportunity in accepting the award last night to speak her mind (we do still have freedom of speech don’t we?) about the current political climate and the President-elect although she did not mention Trump by name.
Now, if you are a fan of movies as I am you would agree that Ms. Streep may be one of the greatest movie actresses the world has ever known. Her accomplishments, her body of cinematic and theatrical work is both prolific and phenomenal. I realize, as she does as well, that she is not curing cancer, but over the course of her career she has not only entertained us but has also educated us, made as think.
So as I was watching her speech last night I wondered how would our President-elect react. Would he just let it go, take the high road or would he retaliate? Would he try to minimize Ms. Streep and her views and the views of her industry? I checked his Twitter account last night before I went to bed, nothing. Good I thought, maybe he is growing up (how often do we say that about a 70-year-old man), maybe he is beginning to realize the seriousness of the position rather than treating those that question him like a kindergarten playground and he is the bully who holds his breath until he gets his way. I got my answer this morning, retaliate and minimize.
I keep asking myself the same question, why? What is in this cats DNA that doesn’t allow him to brush things off and move on. Today, as the President-elect, he vents on Twitter but what happens on January 21st? Will the “power” of Twitter be enough for him? He certainly will have many more tools at his disposal as President than just a Twitter and Facebook account. Kind of a terrifying thought isn’t it? And what about his legions of deplorable’s in red baseball caps, do they find these kind of rants cute, are they “hell yeah” moments, “get em Donald” or do they see the character flaw of someone who expends so much time and energy in sweating the small stuff as many of us do?
“Over-rated actresses”, “attacked last night”, “Hillary flunky”, “lost big”, “make me look bad”, “dishonest media”. As Ms. Streep indicated last night we need the media now more than ever. As I have stated before the one positive that may come out of a Donald J. Trump presidency is the resurgences of the media as a reliable and trustworthy source of information and as a watchdog for the citizens of this country. Sadly, we need a few reporters with their own Twitter accounts pointing out the petty, egotistical, and narcissistic views of our “leaders” if we are truly to make America great again, for everyone.
I still can’t believe somebody as laughably ridiculous as this guy is about to become our next president. Yo, Donnie, for the 100th time, you can deny it all you want, but it’s on video; you mocked him.

I just don’t even know what to say to that… except “wow, what an idiot” So sorry for the political disaster in your country. I can’t shake my head hard enough to make it not real.

Uggh. Our president-elect wants to defeat Isis yet gets hurt feelings from a Hollywood actress/icon. Good grief. Sigh.

Maybe ISIS will tweet something out about his small hands 🙂

I really and truly was hoping that la donald would have missed Ms Streep’s comments. she was so erudite I prayed the sentiment might float over his uncomprehending head. Is there perhaps a way to ban his twitter account until he is no longer the president? I am seriously considering the use of large amounts of varied hallucinogenics just to manage through the next four years.

I find it hard to believe he stayed up to watch. Maybe baby Barron watched it with Mom and told his Daddy in the morning. What do you prefer mushrooms or the hard stuff 🙂

I am so whit you on this…Ms Streep, how could you not be amazed with her achievements, work and then the fantastic way she addressed the issues during the award-event, without even saying his name…I loved it!
Trump…you said it all and you know what, I don’t care if you continue to keep on doing that for the next four years..Even more, I think you should…maybe, just maybe those sheep who follow him will wake up.
