Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2 am. That is the date of daylight savings. I have never understood why it is called that. I think two better names would be daylight giving and daylight taking away.
I am tired of the dark and the cold. I hate hibernating. It appears my waistline enjoys it but I don’t. My bicycle riding is relegated to just two days during the winter, Saturday and Sunday and the weather has and will kill both of those opportunities. My tough man days of riding in the rain or the bitter cold are well behind me. Sorry, I am just too damn old to be wet and cold. It takes too long to recover and warm back up. And God help if I catch a cold. I don’t do sick well, ask my wife.
I go to the gym and ride the stationary bike and walk on the treadmill but both of those are poor replacements for being outdoors and feeling the sun on my face. I would have added the wind in my hair but genetics have not been kind to the long wavy locks of my youth. But I digress. I am ready to come out of hibernation, ready to get off the sofa, ready to see the first buds of Spring. I pace the yard waiting for the Tulips, Daffodils, and Crocus to pop their little crowns out of the cold hard soil and remind me where I planted them and that I should have divided them already.
Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 2 am means a little more daylight but not necessarily warmth. The worst ice and snow storms we have had in these parts have come in early March. A sick and cruel trick from Mother Nature. It might rain again this weekend but right now it is sunny and seventy degrees. Just the wrong day for sunny and seventy degrees.
So I will end up in the gym again tonight and Saturday and Sunday if it rains. I will watch all the guys who pump iron check out their ass in the mirror and the girls dressed in the latest gym fashions work just hard enough not to mess up their Mascara. Me, I will be the old fat guy wearing the way to big ten-year old shorts and some t-shirt my kids bought me many Christmas’s ago sweating bullets on the treadmill waiting impatiently to come out of hibernation.
Sounds like a plan! 🙂

Hey! Stop complaining!
Where you write, now it is sunny and seventy degrees, I would write “now it’s sunny and 36 degrees” … with snow still frozen on the ground!

It is overcast and 29 degrees here but I am planning what to plant in the spring and anxiously preparing to place my order for seeds. I can hardly stand the anticipation!

I understand your enthusiasm. I am ready to get my garden going and hope we have a wetter summer than last year.

Uggg it’s been -20c something here for over a month. Cars sliding into snow banks, people slipping and falling, and grumpy faces everywhere. I’m with ya

Time flies, the older you get, it seems it goes faster…but when waiting for spring, it seems to go soooooooooo slow! This morning I noticed it became light outside, a bit before 8 AM….YIPPEE !

Kind of sad the winter, yes, but I envy you. In Brazil there’s no snow, I’d like to walk on snow someday…:)
