Smoke gets in your eyes

“Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not intentional. This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed to win. The Democrats are overplaying their hand. They lost the election, and now they have lost their grip on reality. The real story is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total “witch hunt!” – Donald J Trump tweet 3-2-17

SMOKE SCREEN  something designed to obscure, confuse, or mislead

When I read our President’s tweet above a few phrases jump out at me; honest man, did not say anything wrong, could have, more accurately, and clearly not intentional. Okay, I get it, we are all fallible, prone to make a mistake here or there. But Mr. Sessions had the opportunity to clear the air, or smoke if you will, not once but twice. Honestly, he had the chance to set the record straight right up until the time the “Fake News” went to press with the story. But my favorite parts of the tweet are these, the deflections, the smoke screens, the, according to our President, real stories; Democrats losing, overplaying their hand, lost their grip on reality, illegal leaks, and witch hunt.

Unless you have been asleep for the last year you know that this tweet will play right into the hands of his base, his “basket of deplorables”. President Trump has done nothing wrong, it’s the “Swamp”, Obama, Hillary Clinton, and the Democrats that are holding you and I back. The Donald wants to fix this mess he inherited but “THEY” won’t let him. I smell another pep rally being organized in the very near future.

Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the United States, seems to be a very popular guy among the Trump surrogates, but why? Why did Mike Flynn, and Jeff Sessions feel the need to meet with Mr. Kislyak during the campaign? And now we can add Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner and campaign adviser, Carter Page to that growing list.

“The only piece of advice that I can give is that, in a situation like this, avoid reacting to all such anonymous, baseless fake news stories and rely only on official statements by genuine officials”- Dmitri Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s spokesman

The reasons may be very simple, maybe Mr. Kislyak was just hedging his bets trying to learn what he could about a man who might become our 45th President. I would assume, given Hillary Clinton’s previous roles in Washington, she and Mr. Kislyak probably already knew each other. But we aren’t being told the reasons why. We aren’t being told anything. If it weren’t for the “Fake News” I am pretty sure we wouldn’t know anything at all. So why would Flynn and Sessions lie? Why would Kushner sneak Mr. Kislyak in the backdoor at Trump Tower? Why would Carter Page deny, deny and now come clean? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!

Half of us know there is more to this story and the other half simply не дают дерьмо (“do not give a shit” in Russian, cute right?). Trumps base is divided into two concerns, one watching the stock market go up, and the other watching the cost of a six-pack of Budweiser going down. Russians? Come on, what do I buy from the Russians? Absolut Vodka is made in Sweden, I don’t give a crap about the Russians. And so what if they helped The Donald win. Is that really a bad thing?

This story wouldn’t be a story if Trump would just come clean and tell us the why, the how and the where and oh yeah, release his tax-returns. Nope, not going to happen. Instead let’s blame the “Swamp”, Obama, Hillary Clinton, the Democrats, the mainstream media, illegal immigrants, the Generals, leaks, the FBI, angry crowds, Sweden, Muslims, Nordstrom, Mexico, NATO……………

Very nicely put. The moment I hear any of his base or any of his staff do a “look at the kitty” method of distraction using the “THEY, Hillary, THEY, The sore losers, Losers! THEY, Obama” that scene from Awakenings, when Robert DeNiro is on the locked floor with the chain link fence, in full-frontal meltdown, excited state of delirium, I know that whatever follows is going to be a lie, stacked upon another lie. The smoke is clearing and the fire is beginning to rage. We just haven’t seen it yet. The Russian ambassador Kislyak is not just some random diplomat. He is a high-level Russian operative. Brought up through the old Soviet KGB network. He not only knows where all the bodies are buried from the cold-war, he put some there himself. And Jeff Sessions had him in his office, behind closed doors? Just letting Kisylak into the building represents a grave threat to National security.

Yup, it’s those nasty Democrats that are behind this whole mess. Trumpaneezes are as innocent and pure as the driven snow. What? Hide something from the American people? Surely you jest!

I know how I would like to see this play out, but my doubt meter is sitting at the highest level.

    • I think we are going to have just enough Republicans “turn before they burn” on this one. Some of the Senators and Congress people do represent a few intellectuals that read the “Fake News”. Would be tough to answer them later if this “shit” blows up and they wanted to know why you didn’t see it coming when we did. Not all the rats will jump off the ship but we might be surprised at the number that do.

When the bomb hits, as in your picture, the smoke is all inclusive. All eyes cloud. The only question remains is who dropped it? When the finger pointing is finished. The ranting and raving subsides. The truth is we all had a hand on the button. The body count will be equal and all our hands dirty. Listening to this is like two kids each blaming the other, each claiming innocence. Both go to their room without supper!

    • So Eric I am curious, what would you propose this kid (me) do? Sit on my hands? Simply watch it unfold? Keep my mouth shut and my eyes closed? I agree, if he presses the button we all pressed the button unless some of us work to get his finger off of it.

I don’t know what you’re supposed to do. Just keep doing what you’re doing. I find it entertaining and thought provoking. I was never interested in politics until this year and your blog keeps me informed about this stuff. I’m not sure if there’s anything anyone can do except watch it unfold. I keep remembering back to the 60’s with sit ins, protests, anti-war riots, 4 dead in Ohio and I don’t know for sure, but I don’t believe all that protesting did a damn thing to end the war. It unfolded and ended when it did and that was that. I guess it made us feel good that we were at least trying to do something.
What bothers me most about this Trump thing is the complete disrespect and mud slinging and negativity each side exhibits. Like immature children.
Also, the news articles by the liberal media saying, “If Trump signs this or that then we’re all doomed.” Umm..really? Who actually knows?
All this negativity is not doing anyone any good. All it does is divide and promote fear.
You know, “One nation under god…” We’re all on this ride together. I’m right, you’re right, he’s right, they’re right?? Lets all start with respecting each other. (this is where you say, ya, if Trump stops disrespecting us)
So, that’s my take on it. I enjoy your blog and I’m learning a lot. Thanks for that. If you’d rather I didn’t comment let me know and I’ll stop. No big deal.

        • Oh hell no, I love and value your comments they make me think. But this whole deal screws up my Buddhist sensibilities. If you can’t change what’s in front of you then change your view of it. That’s the only thing any of us can control and then our President tweets childish shit like this; “We should start an immediate investigation into @SenSchumer and his ties to Russia and Putin. A total hypocrite!” and I think, don’t give up trying to change what’s in front of me. Kind of damned if I do, damned if I do deal.

As a new Oklahoman, I can say with my vast experience of three years, that Mr Sessions is a back-peddlar. He says one thing, does another, lies, gets caught then weasels his way out with obfuscation and excuses. We were happy to see him leave, but appalled when he was appointed.
