“Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity than a rich man who is crooked in his ways.” – Proverbs 28:6
President Trump delivered the commencement address to Liberty University this weekend before a crowd of 50,000 conservative Evangelical Christians. As is typical when he presides over one of these “Trump Rally’s” he makes sure that he hits three important topics;
- Anywhere he goes, everywhere he speaks, he attracts a “Big”, “Record Breaking” crowd.
- He won the election, “Bigly”.
- The main stream media is “Fake News”.
After 100 plus days in office you would really think our President could let it go, move on, but he can’t, he just can’t. I don’t believe that insecurity and ego should be the defining character traits of a President but that is what we got.
So he attracts big crowds? Sure, but always keep in mind the venues he chooses to attract these gatherings, like the ultra conservative Liberty University. Would the Grateful Dead attract a bigger crowd in San Francisco or Wheeling, West Virginia? The Donald only “Rally’s” at friendly locales because he is small. He can’t and won’t accept the fact that some of us simply don’t love and support him.
Yes, we all got the memo, he won the election. Never mind that he only won one side of the vote it doesn’t matter. He won, I get it and I accept it. Now, why can’t he? For a while I thought his constant references to winning “Bigly” was just his efforts to rub salt in the wounds of us losers. But I no longer think that. I believe The Donald is still in shock that he won. Certainly his lack of preparation in staffing key positions proves that everyday. The American public would truly be amazed at the sheer number of very important jobs that have not been filled and, here is the telling stat, aren’t even close to being filled because of all the other fires our President has started. He wasn’t prepared to be President and you and I are paying the price for it.
There is only one main stream media outlet that Trump believes and accepts as the gospel, Fox News. Everything and everyone else is categorized as “Fake News”. But over the last few weeks, since the removal of Bill O’Reilly and with the exception of Fox personalities Sean Hannity and Judge Jeanine, I have noticed a few more stories on Fox that maybe don’t necessarily criticize the President but do point out some of his more bonehead moves and missteps.
Fox cut their teeth on being the conservative media alternative which has been a wonderful market for them over the last twenty years. But they have a problem, their audience is aging out. Fox has put all of its eggs in this one basket, the conservative basket and though it may be hard to see or believe that is not a growing demographic. It is an aging population though and getting older everyday.
Many of Fox’s more “moderate” talking heads have left the network leaving Fox with a huge void to fill. Their prime time line up is getting its ass kicked by both MSNBC and CNN which appeals to a younger and more moderate audience. Certainly I don’t see Fox becoming the political middle of the road network but I won’t be surprised to see more stories that question and possibly conflict with the stated conservative agendas.
President Trump had a rough week last week and what got him into trouble was his lack of preparation, his inability to accept the advice of others, his mouth and his thumbs. Rumors are swirling that he is planning to make wholesale changes to his staff which I read as simply shrinking his sphere of influence down to just his daughter and son in-law. Still, I wonder if he really wants to be President. I think he liked the idea of running and winning but beyond that who knows what he is really thinking.
“President Trump’s eccentric behavior, especially in the past week, raises a serious question: Does he want to be president?” – John Moody is Executive Vice President, Executive Editor for Fox News
