“It is very queer that the unhappiness of the world is so often brought on by small men.” – Erich Maria Remarque,
Did you hear that sigh Saturday? That collective sigh across the world? That was the sound of Donald Trump, his administration, and Trump supporters in Congress and the Senate catching their breath.
So far, as of Monday, May 22nd at 1:45 pm, “our” President hasn’t said anything stupid. Now I can’t say selling the Saudi’s $110 billion dollars of weapons so they can bring Yemen to its knees wasn’t stupid. But that is another post. I do have confidence in the man though. His mouth works faster than his brain so he still has plenty of time and ample opportunities to put his foot in his mouth. I think it is obvious to his staff that the only way to keep Donald Trump from acting like Donald Trump is to keep him away from everyone else including himself. He has already begged out of one duty in Saudi Arabia due to exhaust. I would suspect there are several more of those moments ahead of him.
“Our” President has an unusual attitude about exercise. Trump believes that the human body is like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, and that exercise actually depletes the amount of energy we are all born with. As such, he doesn’t exercise, ever! So I was wrong, he actually does have something in common with Bubba Deplorable, that Trump supporter who plants his wide ass in the seat of his rotting Naugahyde recliner in front of the television on Friday afternoon getting up only to retrieve another beer or relieve himself of the previous one before he goes to work Monday morning. I stand corrected.
What Trump and his staff know is that all this “calm” is simply the calm before the storm unless of course he decides to seek political asylum in the middle east. The guys and gals over at The Washington Post and The New York Times aren’t catching their breath. For them this moment, this Presidency, this man is a once in a lifetime (I can only hope) opportunity. The question I hope these reporters are asking themselves everyday is “are we on the right path?” Trump has created so many rabbit holes and has fired those that were hot on his trail which include Sally Yates, Preet Bharara, and James Comey. It might be easy to just go after the low hanging fruit being dangled in front of them (Mike Flynn). I hope they won’t. I hope they will keep digging and eliminate the one thing we don’t have and Trump wants more of…..time.
“The wisest were just the poor and simple people. They knew the war to be a misfortune, whereas those who were better off, and should have been able to see more clearly what the consequences would be, were beside themselves with joy.” – Erich Maria Remarque,
