Over the next few weeks “our” President is rolling out three “new” themes to try to re-energize his fan base and give the appearance that he is doing something other than tweeting, eating, watching television and playing golf. The three themes are “Made in America”, “American Heroes” and the “American Dream”. When all else fails, and it has, try a reboot using the old red, white and blue.
What concerns me about this “America” marketing campaign is we are sitting here with a President who has a historically low approval rating that continues to sink everyday. If it were any other man I probably wouldn’t be as concerned but as we have seen, Trump isn’t any other man.
Our thin-skinned Commander-in-chief wants to be loved, needs to be loved. His ego, his self-worth, and his self-image is fed by adoration and what worries me is that Trump my turn to military engagements to boost his ratings. Think it is sounds far-fetched? Look at the number and size of the bombs he has already dropped in his first six-months in office. Look at the amount of saber-rattling he has exposed us too. And look how he has ramped up military operations in Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Nothing says “Presidential” like commanding planes, ships, tanks and soldiers on foreign soil. Picture a sandbox and a bag full of plastic Army men and you have the mentality and the abilities of “our” President in a nutshell.
But back to his “America” theme party’s over the coming weeks, it is a widely known that the Trump Organization has outsourced most if not all of its product manufacturing to factories in Bangladesh, China and Mexico. These factories produce everything from Trump clothing to home decor items. Additionally, the clothing line of Ivanka Trump is made exclusively in foreign factories employing low-wage workers in countries such as Bangladesh, Indonesia and China.
Those are the facts, period. “Made in America” like his red MAGA baseball caps is a marketing campaign designed to boost his sagging ratings. At this point I don’t give a shit about his approval numbers. Once the full force of the “Russian hoax story” overtakes him, his family and his staff his approval numbers won’t matter. But what will matter is up until that time that he is removed from office, a time period that could take up to two years by some accounts, he gets to play General with the lives and resources of the American people.
This man is not qualified to make diplomatic decisions about where we send troops or who we drop bombs on. Nothing, NOTHING that Trump has ever done or accomplished in life has prepared him for this responsibility, certainly not building failed Casino’s, or starring in the The Apprentice. As I have written before the American people could not have picked an individual more ill-prepared for the job of running this great country than Donald Trump. But I will grant Trump this compliment, he may be the greatest salesman the world as ever seen, and being elected President of the United States will certainly go down as the greatest con job ever undertaken. I can’t wait for the book.
