When your view is only 35% wide

As most of you know I typically do not post anything on Saturday’s or Sunday’s. I try to answer the handful of comments people leave but for the most part traffic is slow on my blog over the weekends. This Sunday was different because of one rather righteous “Christian” who decided she wanted to have a battle of the wits with me. She was responding to my post from a month ago Is Donald Trump the new face of American Christianity?

This was here first comment; “Christian “Persecution” of LGBT, refugees, immigrants, poor, and people of color? Are you suggesting that as Christians we are to remain silent on the seriousness of the sins committed against God by homosexuals, knowing full-well about God the Father’s fury, and hellfire destruction, of Sodom for those very same sins? If we followed that path, we would no longer be Christians, we’d just be JERKS! We are remanded by God to warn these people that they are on a selfish journey which will lead them to eternal damnation unless they repent and reform their displeasing behavior.
As far as Christians “persecuting” the remainder of your list of victims, those people are the very people to whom millions of Christians have dedicated their very lives and wealth to helping. And NO OTHER faith on earth has ever surpassed the Christian’s level of charity. For pete sakes, Christians invented the concept of hospitals and schools for that very purpose!”

At first I was just going to ignore her. I was having a very pleasant Sunday watching the British Open and the Tour de France but then I read her comment again “as Christians we are to remain silent on the seriousness of the sins committed against God by homosexuals” followed by “And NO OTHER faith on earth has ever surpassed the Christian’s level of charity.” Despite my efforts to ignore her I couldn’t let her get away with these bullshit thoughts without a challenge.

As many of you can well imagine, knowing my views, this little tit for tat escalated quickly. What I got over the course of several hours was a very irrational discourse about how important Christians are to the survival of the world. I made an assumption early on that she was one of Trump’s 35% supporters which was confirmed when I found her Twitter account.

I don’t get much push back from readers anymore and I miss that. I like debating topics provided the conversation remains sane and rational. But unfortunately it seems there is nothing sane or rational about the white, conservative, and Christian Trump brigade. Like Franklin Graham, they see Trump’s ascension to the throne as a mandate from God. Never mind his character flaws, he was ordained to reestablish order. To legitimize the white-Christian agenda.

From this irrational lady I learned;

1. Christians invented the concept of hospitals and schools.

2. 95% of homosexuals were abused as children.

3. Dr. Seuss books are spawned from the mind of an author on a LSD trip.

4. Christians invented missions.

5. That I was educated in a public school system run by feminist socialists who push their anti-white Christian male agenda.

6. That I  am a flaming bigot and racist who is obviously irrationally prejudiced and HATE white Christians.

I concluded my “conversation” with this lady with the following observation; “When you stand before God and condemn homosexuals, I hope you have a good answer for your love and support of a pussy grabbing, racist, money loving, adulterer. Yea, God said those were sins too you hypocrite.”

Yup, just a nice, quiet Sunday afternoon battling someone using just 35% of their mental capacity. I guess it is up to the rest of us to get this country over the 35% hump.

About ends and beginnings blog

I am a frustrated writer and poet waiting to be discovered. A stand-up philosopher performing on a street corner near you. A Christian with questions but I don’t want to hear your answers. A Buddhist with a bumper sticker on my truck to prove it. A collector of quotes. A grower of lettuce. The Patron Saint of earthworms who name their children after me. A cyclist whose big ass strains the seams of his Lycra bibs. I am American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. My goal in life is to leave an imprint on the lives of the people I love not a footprint on the earth. I am a son, a husband, a father composed of 65%-Oxygen, 18%-Carbon, 10%-Hydrogen, 3%-Nitrogen, 3%-Diet Coke and 1%-Oreo.

I wonder how she would feel to learn that “hospitals” were actually started by Muslims? Schools weren’t, but it wasn’t a Christian group that started them either….the first school was in China in 265 BC…….sigh….the trumpette two doors down had the audacity to tell me that “Trump was placed in power by God, so that he could break away with Israel and force the second coming of Jesus Christ.” I was nowhere near as polite as you.

  6. Aw hell, let’s just unload both barrels here. WHAT CAN BE CONSIDERED SANE AND RATIONAL ABOUT A RELIGION THAT IS FOUNDED ON A VIRGIN BIRTH, THAT CLAIMS A “BODILY” RESURRECTION FROM DEATH, THAT CLAIMS IT HAS THE ONLY PATH TO THE ONLY TRUE GOD, THAT HAS ATTEMPTED TO DECIMATE ENTIRE POPULATIONS BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO CONVERT, THAT HAS TOTALLY BASTARDIZED THE ALLEGED WORDS OF IT’S SAVIOR, THAT TELLS ME THE WINE AND BREAD SOMEHOW MIRACULOUSLY BECOMES THE BLOOD AND BODY OF CHRIST, THAT TELLS ME I AM GOING TO HELL BECAUSE OF WHOM I CHOOSE TO LOVE? I no longer wear the Christian label because I am thoroughly disgusted and ashamed by what they have done in the name of God. They are amazingly clueless.

  7. My proudest moment in my gentle disagreements with a Christianist Trumper on somebody else’s Facebook page was when he called my a Nazi, a Socialist and a Communist over a 4-part exchange, then threw in that was the “worst person on earth”, and I would be chased down by Muslims (who are coming into America) who would cut off my hands, and, why didn’t I go live in Venezuela since I wasn’t fit to live in America. I’ve known him for 15 years (as a colorful character) but this Trump thing has sent him completely over the edge. Scary to think there are millions of them out there like him and your “lady”, with guns.

  8. Doesn’t the Bible say a lot about social injustice? Didn’t God in the Old Testament select prophets to chew out the ancient Hebrew kingdoms for their neglect of the outcasts in society? Doesn’t Christ himself talk about this sort of thing?

I hope for the sake of these supposed Christians in power now that their God doesn’t exist, or else they may be in for a nasty surprise.
