“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – Jesus Christ (John 8:31-32)
Donald Trump gave an interview last week to the Wall Street Journal, a paper which is part of Rupert Murdoch’s news empire (he also owns Fox) and one Trump has never referenced as “fake news” that I am aware of. The Journal has been around for 130 years and is the holy grail of business reporting. A paper any and every American tycoon subscribes too whether they read it or not.
The Huffington Post, yes considered by conservatives everywhere as a liberal rag, recently published a “recap” of Trumps WSJ interview titled The 7 Most Mind-Boggling Moments From Donald Trump’s Wall Street Journal Interview. Some of the highlights;
He fabricated claims about the reaction to his Boy Scouts speech.
When the Journal editors said that the speech got “mixed” reactions from former scouts, Trump shot back that, “They loved it… it was no mix.” The president then claimed that the head of the Boy Scouts personally called him to tell him that, “it was the greatest speech that was ever made to them, and they were very thankful.” The group reportedly denied that such an exchange ever took place.
He falsely claimed that he has passed more bills during his first six months in office than any other president.
“I honestly believe for six months I have done more than just about any president when you look at all of the bills that were passed, 42, 43,” he said. This is a claim he’s made before. But according to The New York Times, Jimmy Carter signed 70 bills during the same time period as president, while Bill Clinton signed 50. Franklin Delano Roosevelt topped them all by signing 76 bills in his first 100 days.
Trump also lied and said no one on his team ever spoke with Russian officials.
“I was never involved with Russia,” the president told the Journal. “There was nobody in the campaign. I’ve got 200 people that will say that they’ve never seen anybody on the campaign…. there’s nobody on the campaign that saw anybody from Russia. We had nothing to do with Russia.”
Multiple members of his inner circle met with Russian officials during the campaign, according to a seemingly endless series of reports. Even his elder son, Donald Trump Jr., has admitted that he knew in advance that his meeting with lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya was related to the Kremlin’s support of his father.
This isn’t new. This isn’t some great revelation that I have recently had but “our” President operates in an alternative universe than the rest of the world. He is not the commander-in-chief but the liar-in-chief. Apparently he can not distinguish the difference between fact or fiction. Yes he is building a wall, a wall built with blocks of lies but we are the nutty ones, the liars, because we, the collective “we” call him on it.
In my opinion, “we” have elected the most incompetent, and unstable man imaginable. He is simply incapable of doing this job. He doesn’t have the personality, the mental capacity or the social skills to be the most powerful man in the world. He loves the idea of being the Emperor, he certainly believes he is the smartest man walking on the face of this earth but the hard and harsh reality is he is a juvenile dressed up in a $1,000 silk suit.
I write my two Republican Senators every week and ask them one simple question, “Why does the Republican party continue to enable this man?” I realize that I live in a red state, and that Trump received 55% of the votes but I ask my Senators at what point do you put the welfare of your constituents, hell the country, over the party?
After seven months it is very easy to see that Trump is an albatross around the neck of the Republican party. His “influence” and efforts have added not one ounce of value to any of the bills a majority Republican Congress and Senate have tried to pass. But Trump continues to rattle his saber, convincing some members that come reelection time they will need him more than he needs them. These are the gutless wonders we need to get out of Washington……now.
As “our” liar-in-chief builds his wall higher and wider the rest of us suffer. We suffer because Washington is paralyzed putting out fires that have nothing to do with moving this country forward. In the meantime Trump keeps playing to his base of white, working-class, Christians. According to The New York Times, the Justice Department’s civil rights division will begin investigating and suing universities over affirmative action admissions policies deemed to discriminate against white applicants. Basically reverse discrimination, led by the man previously dubbed too racist to be a federal judge, Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III. Can you say “White Power!”.
