A new dawn

The rope I grip has begun to fray,

The knots I tied have slipped and drawn slack,

From the truths that control my motions, and count my days

It’s time I pushed away from this shore of security

Towards the dawn of a new light, a twilight in the horizon

Beyond what I know, what I believe and accept as certainty

There are no truths, only beliefs which impede my progress

Faith corrupts my mind and my relationship with wonder

There is space between my days and the sun,

A vastness deeper than my mind accepts and these eyes are willing to trace

The words and verses that have limited my expansion fade behind dark clouds,

The ancient ink bleeds like rain on blank pages in the antique Book,

Dissolving the Old and the New into the Here and the Now

This is the Religion of the faithful, the hope in ourselves

The hope in each other, the hope in a new dawn

About ends and beginnings blog

I am a frustrated writer and poet waiting to be discovered. A stand-up philosopher performing on a street corner near you. A Christian with questions but I don’t want to hear your answers. A Buddhist with a bumper sticker on my truck to prove it. A collector of quotes. A grower of lettuce. The Patron Saint of earthworms who name their children after me. A cyclist whose big ass strains the seams of his Lycra bibs. I am American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. My goal in life is to leave an imprint on the lives of the people I love not a footprint on the earth. I am a son, a husband, a father composed of 65%-Oxygen, 18%-Carbon, 10%-Hydrogen, 3%-Nitrogen, 3%-Diet Coke and 1%-Oreo.

  1. Awakening to the wonder and awe which dwells within, without, in all of the miraculous Creation? The ancient mystics knew it and lived it. Theology destroyed it. (Are our thoughts in the same ball park?)
