I am sorry

“I am sorry” would seem to be three pretty simple words to say. I would suspect over my 56 years of living I have said “I am sorry” a time or 10,000. I have said it as a condolence. I have said it would I have screwed-up and hurt someone. I have even said for no reason it all because it seemed to be the most appropriate thing to say at the moment.

“I am sorry” is an ego-less statement. You say it because it isn’t important who is right or who is wrong. You put your pride away when you say “I am sorry”. It is a sentiment you offer with humility. “I am sorry” is about respect, compassion, and empathy for others. It’s not about winning or losing it is simply about being a human being and recognizing that some “battles” are best left unfought. Sadly, it appears “I am sorry” is not in “our” Presidents vocabulary.

Trump is not only in a war of tweets with Rep. Frederica Wilson about his phone call to the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson but now he has dug his heels in deeper and for all practical purposes has called his widow, Myeshia Johnson, a lair as well.

Trump tweeted this morning “I had a very respectful conversation with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, and spoke his name from beginning, without hesitation!” after Mrs. Johnson, who is pregnant with the couples third child, spoke on ABC about her phone call with Trump. She confirmed Rep. Wilson’s account of the conversation and added that the exchange with Trump “made me cry because I was very angry at the tone of his voice”.

I am willing to give Trump the benefit of the doubt. Most of us realize having watched him over the last year that compassion and empathy don’t come naturally to him or as White House speechwriter Peter Wehner noted, Trump is “missing an empathy gene. It’s just not natural to him.” But Trump has moved beyond trying to defend himself. His goal is to start and win the war and sadly the victims are a women who has lost her husband, and three children, one yet born, who have lost their father. How could Trump have avoided this? A simple “I am sorry” whether he meant it or not would have been a good place to start.

My utter disappointment with Trump has no bounds. He could resolve several of my issues with him by simply deleting his twitter account. His tweets are the epitome of the old saying “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.” Sadly, no one seems to have the balls to tell Trump this and if they have he is simply to ignorant to heed their advice. I would bet on the latter.

This war over Sgt. La David Johnson is one Trump doesn’t needs to wage. There will be no winners in this latest skirmish but he continues to fuel the fire, because he doesn’t give a shit. In his mind if he lets this pass he will look weak and heaven forbid “our” President show any signs of weakness even when it means taking a young widow down with him.

“My whole life is about winning. I don’t lose often. I almost never lose.” –  Donald Trump

Of course I agree with all you’re written, but what about the other three? There’s been so much focus on “the war” over Sgt. La David Johnson and his widow, the others who died have been completely ignored. Were their deaths not significant as well?

But then, we all know that tRumpsky simply MUST have something to whine about so he can keep himself in the public eye. Good grief! We can’t have him actually acting like a bona fide leader!

The other 3 are getting attention. The reason La David is getting more is because he was left behind and they weren’t. The other 3 were picked up by a private company because we outsource everything. His beacon was on which means he was alive. He was found by allies and not us. So like everything else 45, distraction is used to keep us from looking into the more pressing issues.

  2. This goes beyond “personality quirks”. It is dangerous, sociopathic behavior. The Amendment 25 train is barreling down the track….all aboard!
