The apocalypse is here and Evangelical Christians couldn’t be happier

“Take the Bible. Zachariah and Elizabeth for instance. Zachariah was extremely old to marry Elizabeth and they became the parents of John the Baptist. Also take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus.” – Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler

I escaped this weekend to the mountains of Virginia to pedal my mountain bike up a big hill, a very big and long hill. Pedaling up hill, through a beautiful forest for 17 miles at 10 mph, in the cold gives you a lot of time to think. Sadly what I thought about was Judge Roy Moore, the people of Alabama and Evangelical Christians.

I have already detailed in a previous post that I think Roy Moore is bat shit crazy. His over the top Christian beliefs are, in a word, terrifying. But what is more terrifying, at least for me, is that there are people in Alabama like the state auditor quoted above that would use the Bible as a reference point to justify Roy Moore’s supposed and/or suspected past behavior.

I am a southern. I have lived my entire life in the south. My southern heritage and roots run deep, over 300 years deep but apparently based on what I have read from Alabamians who are defending the great Roy Moore you would think I was born and raised in San Francisco, California. I already had an issue with his views on homosexuals, Muslims, heck the Constitution of the United States. Even without the latest accusations about his behavior I thought he was unfit to serve in the Senate but apparently the people of Alabama don’t share my views.

I have a very difficult time lumping all Alabamians into one very narrow and shallow pot. I have a dear friend from the state, a kind, caring, compassionate and might I add level-headed man who I care for immensely. He is a product of the Alabama rural school systems, graduated from the University of Alabama, still has family in the state and fortunately has a wonderful sense of humor that allows him to make fun of his very humble and seemingly backwards upbringing. I know that there are more of “him” out there it just seems most of the sane and rational ones climbed the fence and escaped to other parts of the country.

As I was slowly grinding my way up the hill it occurred to me that this kind of “Christian” separation was exactly what the Evangelicals were hoping to get from Donald Trump. They knew he wasn’t a religious man. They knew he wasn’t a “Christian” like they are hell they doubted he even believed in God but Trump was willing to say and do anything they told him to get elected. Why? Because the end is near and they want a front row seat to watch the apocalypse because like Roy Moore they believe they are Gods chosen people.

Frank Amedia, founder of Touch Heaven Ministries and an early Christian “policy” adviser to Trump believes that The Donald “receives downloads” from God which he forwards to the rest of us through Twitter. Amedia also contends that he was told by God last year that Donald Trump would be the GOP presidential nominee and he believes God “raised up” Trump to help pave the way for the “Second Coming” of Christ. My question is this, if the Evangelical Christian world truly believes a man like Trump was elected President to pave the way for Jesus Christ would they even recognize Christ if He kicked them in the ass? For all they know Christ is already here playing outside linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, kneeling on the sidelines.

Yup, I believe the end is near as well, the end of the reign of narrow-minded Christians. I believe they will continue to congregate in narrow-minded states like Alabama and wait for their blue-eyed savior to come along and save them from Democrats and liberals but their numbers will dwindle because of episodes like this with Roy Moore.

They have waited a long time and I am convinced long after many of us are dead and gone they will still be waiting because they don’t know Jesus, they have never met Him, they reject Jesus everyday and they will keep rejecting Him because their hearts aren’t open enough to find Him.

“The Obama-Clinton Machine’s liberal media lapdogs just launched the most vicious and nasty round of attacks against me I’ve EVER faced! We are in the midst of a spiritual battle with those who want to silence our message. The forces of evil will lie, cheat, steal –– even inflict physical harm –– if they believe it will silence and shut up Christian conservatives like you and me. I believe you and I have a duty to stand up and fight back against the forces of evil waging an all-out war on our conservative values!” – Roy Moore

I am a frustrated writer and poet waiting to be discovered. A stand-up philosopher performing on a street corner near you. A Christian with questions but I don’t want to hear your answers. I was shocked to find out that the USA has so many dominionist religious people. Not just the ones on TV saying things I would consider to be rather wacky, but all the ones listening to them who do want and strive for their religion to take over the government of the USA. Think on how many senators and house people who are deeply religious or claim to make laws based on their religion. The church people made it a point to get their people elected to state offices and from there to congress. I have seen videos of Orrin Hatch briefing Mormon leaders with classified information ( classified at the time ) and getting orders from those same leaders on what religious based things they wanted him to push for. He never got in trouble for it. How many times have we heard republican congress people disregard proven science for what their bible or preach told them. It is a danger we had better wake up to. They scream about islamic sharia laws because they are trying to force the country into a christian sharia legal system. It scares me listening to them, the Bryan Fischers and Linda Harvey crowd. They are as manic about their faith as any Muslim suicide bomber. And as a gay man I have fought the ideas and the broadcasting of those type of people. It scares me spitless that tRumpsky has filled his administration with them. Jeff Sessions as the head of the Justice Department means there could be no justice for people like me. Hugs

Sometime back (2013), I wrote a post that included this:

Christian Reconstructionism is a movement variously known as Dominionism, Dominion Theology, Christian Reconstructionism, Theocratic Dominionism, Kingdom Now Theology, and Theonomy (see http://www.religioustolerance.org/reconstr.htm). In essence, it is a political movement to convert the United States — and eventually the entire earth — into a theocracy in which dissenters, adulterers, sexually active homosexuals, some sexually active bisexuals, witches, sorcerers, etc. would be exterminated. (!)

This movement has, unfortunately, raised its ugly head and become much more visible since the election of our bigoted leader.

  6. To those who claim exclusive knowledge and the inside track to God, I would ask, “have you ever seen Jesus?” To those who vehemently attack people of faith indiscriminately, I would ask, “have you ever known Jesus?” If the answer to both questions is “no”, then perhaps neither of you have done enough research.
