So what happened?

Miss me yet

“Big win for Republicans as Democrats cave on Shutdown. Now I want a big win for everyone, including Republicans, Democrats and DACA, but especially for our Great Military and Border Security. Should be able to get there. See you at the negotiating table!

Even Crazy Jim Acosta of Fake News CNN agrees: “Trump World and WH sources dancing in end zone: Trump wins again…Schumer and Dems caved…gambled and lost.” Thank you for your honesty Jim!” – Trump tweets 1-23-18

Why would Senator Chuck Schumer and the Democrats “cave”? Because as he stated; “Negotiating with this White House is like negotiating with jello, it is next to impossible. It’s next to impossible to strike a deal with the President, because he can’t stick to the terms. I have found this out, Leader McConnell has found this out, Speaker Ryan has found this out.” What Schumer and the Democrats did yesterday was turn the lights back on, but on a timer set for three weeks.

If you watched Schumer’s speech on the Senate floor before the vote you heard him say; “The Congressional leaders tell me to negotiate with President Trump. President Trump tells me to figure it out with the congressional leaders. This political Catch-22, never seen before, has driven our government to dysfunction. Americans know why this dysfunction is occurring. Dysfunctional president. We are in a Trump Shutdown, and party leaders who won’t act without him have created the chaos and the gridlock we find ourselves in today. It all really stems from the president, whose inability to create a deal has created the Trump Shutdown… President Trump walked away from not one, but two bipartisan deals.” And how did Senator Mitch McConnell respond to Schumer’s analysis of the President? He didn’t or better yet, he couldn’t.

So what happened? In my mind the Democrats took a bullet for the Republicans yesterday with the hope that #1, the two parties can strike a deal leaving Trump and his Neo-Nazi policy advisor Stephen Miller on the side lines and #2, that they will have enough votes for a super majority which would prevent Trump and his right-wing lackeys in the Congress from killing it.

It would appear to be a very risky move for Schumer and the Democrats. He knew that he would get a lot of push back from within his own party and, I am sure worst of all, he knew that the Dumb Ass-in-Chief would crow on twitter to his 35% base and pat himself on the back, which of course he did bright and early this morning.

But the issue didn’t go away, Schumer just gave McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan a night-light so they could see the amount of horse-shit they have to wade through to keep the lights on.

Trump is headed to Davos, Switzerland to the World Economic Forum, interestingly enough without Melania who changed her plans at the last moment to join her husband I assume because of the anticipated Stormy (Daniels) weather. Yea, this will be an interesting forecast to watch, one you won’t see played out on the Weather Channel.

Hopefully with Trump out of McConnell’s and Ryan’s hair for a few days the two sides can craft a deal despite “our” Presidents efforts to blow it up by lobbing twitter bombs like “Nobody knows for sure that the Republicans & Democrats will be able to reach a deal on DACA by February 8, but everyone will be trying….with a big additional focus put on Military Strength and Border Security. The Dems have just learned that a Shutdown is not the answer!”

Welcome to the new normal. Welcome to a Presidency filled with chaos and drama. A President who holds his breath like a six-year-old until you tell him what a pretty and smart boy he is. A President who as Tony Perkins of the evangelical group Family Research Council states gets “a mulligan” for things like the Stormy Daniels affair and $130,000 pay-off because Evangelicals “were tired of being kicked around by Barack Obama and his leftists” and who are “finally glad that there’s somebody on the playground that is willing to punch the bully”. Welcome. I guarantee there is more Stormy weather ahead but just tighten up your life vest, it won’t last forever.

  1. Of course Trump would say the Democrats “caved”. In his world there are only winners and losers and he would never entertain the thought that he has been bested.. Compromise does not cut it. My money is on those folks who are willing to bend. I believe they will “shutdown” in the 2018 elections this runaway ego train called the Trump Administration. Thanks for another great post, brother.
