Trump: What shocks us?

Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), resigned Wednesday, a day after it was reported she purchased stock in a tobacco company after she took the position at the nation’s top public health agency, an investment obviously at odds with the mission of the CDC.

Dr. Ben Carson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has allowed his wife, Candy Carson, son Ben Carson Jr. and daughter-in-law Merlynn Carson to attended official HUD meetings providing them with an unfair, and highly unethical advantage for potential business dealings with agency. HUD’s deputy general counsel for operations, Linda M. Cruciani, wrote in a July 6 memo; “I expressed my concern that this gave the appearance that the Secretary may be using his position for his son’s private gain” describing her reaction upon learning of Carson Jr.’s involvement from other staff members.

For any other Presidency these would have been scandalous revelations. If they had occurred during the Obama presidency, with a Republican controlled Congress, committees would have formed to investigate these allegations and Fox News would have blanketed the air waves with righteous indignation about Obama corruption. But this is the Trump administration, and the list of characters who have resigned, been fired or simply just disappeared because of corruption, shady dealings, or just plain old stupidity in one short year is already a pretty long list and growing.

To say that we have become numb to the corruption, deception, and the lies coming out of the White House would be an understatement. At this point, again, just one year in, nothing seems to shock us anymore.

The BIG story right now, if any of you have missed it, is THE MEMO crafted by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes. There are all kinds of side stories occurring with this memo beginning with what its ultimate purpose is, who is really behind its origination, and that the FBI is insistent that its release will jeopardize national security. But here is the “fun” new story about THE MEMO, as revealed by Rep. Adam Schiff, it has been changed, it has been edited. And guess where these edits came from? The White House, but again are we shocked?

The intent of THE MEMO is very simple and very clear, to discredit the FBI and the Robert Mueller Russia investigation. Trump is running out of ammunition to derail the investigation as he begins to choke and the noose tightens around him. And since his Twitter attacks don’t seem to be changing the tide quickly enough, he is relying on a handful of Republican Congressmen like Nunes to give him other options, some breathing room, namely cleaning house in the Department of Justice.

Ultimately the release of THE MEMO is up to Trump. The Deplorables want it released. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh want it released and I am sure it will, once it contains everything Trump needs and wants it to say. The historians are going to have a field day with this President and his administration. I suspect in ten years we will all be saying Richard Nixon who?
