Obstruction of Justice – the crime or act of willfully interfering with the process of justice and law especially by influencing, threatening, harming, or impeding a witness, potential witness, juror, or judicial or legal officer or by furnishing false information in or otherwise impeding an investigation or legal process.
It would seem, at least to me, that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has an open and shut Obstruction of Justice case against Donald Trump just based on what “our” President has tweeted, said in television interviews and generally told the press over the last year. His NBC, Lester Holt interview after firing FBI Director James Comey was enough evidence for me but I am not an attorney and certainly I have a very rudimentary understanding of the law. Robert Mueller, on the other hand, is a legal Einstein compared to my Pee Wee Herman grasp of all things legal.
The one thing I do know, and I would assume Trumps attorneys know this as well, if I were under investigation by a man of Robert Mueller’s caliber and intelligence, I think I would keep my mouth and my fingers shut down during the process. Why provide him with anymore ammunition than he already has? Apparently Trump just doesn’t see it that way.
Reread the definition of Obstruction of Justice; the crime or act of willfully interfering with the process of justice and law especially by influencing, threatening, harming, or impeding a witness, potential witness, juror, or judicial or legal officer or by furnishing false information in or otherwise impeding an investigation or legal process. I know enough about the law to understand, any suit, any investigation, any charges are about the “process”. It is the “process” that either exonerates or convicts a person. The “process” can be impeded any number of ways including, influencing, threatening, harming, or impeding a witness and when you are the President one more, firing or threatening the people in charge of the “process”.
I have no doubt in mind that Trump obstructed justice and here is the important part, he continues to do so. His advocates and supporters chalk up his earlier missteps to naiveté but a year into the process, with a cavalry of very expensive attorneys at his side, I think we can all take that excuse off the table.
Trump will be charged with Obstruction of Justice because his pride and ego wouldn’t allow him to get out of his own way. As John C. Maxwell noted; “There are two kinds of pride, both good and bad. ‘Good pride’ represents our dignity and self-respect. ‘Bad pride’ is the deadly sin of superiority that reeks of conceit and arrogance.” Which category do you think applies to “our” President?
I mentioned the other day that Trump and Sean Hannity are simply throwing wet spaghetti up against the wall to see what sticks and what gets the most attention. At this point what Trump and Hannity are working off of as nothing to do with the “process”. Their goal is to disrupt and divert the “process” and it would appear to me that they are both becoming more desperate which ultimately could become more dangerous for all of us.
