Sleep tight Florida

Donald Trump’s best friend in the whole world, Vladimir Putin, spent most of his annual state of the nation speech yesterday talking about Russia’s new nuclear weapons arsenal. Big Don’s buddy even went so far as to show a cartoonish video of Russian nuclear missiles striking Florida. Did you hear that Mr. and Mrs. Deplorable in Pensacola? Florida! And what was on “our” fearless leaders mind this morning? Important stuff; “Alec Baldwin, whose dying mediocre career was saved by his terrible impersonation of me on SNL, now says playing me was agony. Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch. Bring back Darrell Hammond, funnier and a far greater talent!”.

My President, Barack Obama, would not have found the humor in this little stunt. I can promise you he also wouldn’t have simply ignored it either. But when Vladimir Putin “owns your ass” you say nothing, you do nothing, you suck your thumb and hope it just goes away, oh yea and you tweet about someone who makes fun of you like Alec Baldwin. And still, Mr. and Mrs. Deplorable in Pensacola don’t get it or better yet, for whatever reason, just don’t want to get it.

In my 57 years of living the United States has had one ongoing and consistent enemy, one country that has been a continuous threat to our Democracy, one country whose sole interest is to bring the United States to its knee. And that country, the Russian Federation, the same country that spent millions to get Trump elected, the same country that has loaned “our” President billions of dollars, the same country that owns “our” President.

Putin said their new technology renders American missile defenses “useless”. Why would Trump allow his best friend to make that claim, that threat and not push back? Why doesn’t Trump tweet about the hundred of thousands of innocent Syria’s gassed by a Russian backed regime? Why? Putin owns his ass that’s why.

Michael McFaul an academic and author who served as the United States Ambassador to Russia from 2012 to 2014 noted this morning; “30 years ago, even 10 years ago, Putin’s speech today threatening to attack America in new ways with nuclear weapons would have been sensational news, demanding a response from our president. Today? Nothing. Amazing. Disappointing. And scary.” And why is that Mr. and Mrs. Deplorable? Because the man who rules the country, the country that has been a threat to the United States for decades. The country that was the reason you used to hide under your school desk during nuclear bomb drills owns your Presidents ass. Sleep tight Florida.
