“I will get Putin on this program and we will get Donald elected. Buddy, our boy can become President of the USA and we can engineer it. I will get all of Putin’s team to buy in on this.” – 2015 email to Trumps attorney Michael Cohen from Russian born real estate developer Felix Sater
There is more to the Michael Cohen story than meets the eye. It isn’t just about payments to porn stars or Playboy Bunnies. No, there is a back story, a bigger story and I suspect that story will once again smell Russian.
I was unaware until just recently how deep the man called Trump’s “personal fixer” Russian roots ran. As Seth Hettena notes in his book Trump / Russia: A Definitive History, Cohen and his families ties to the Russian mob span decades. Hettena describes Cohen as one of several attorneys who helped Russian money launderers purchase apartments in a Trump development in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida referred to by the locals as “Little Moscow”. Trump experienced a boom in business during the collapse of 2008 while other surrounding developments were going bankrupt. Why? I suspect it had to do with turning Rubles into American dollars.
The amount of Russian cash that was flowing into Trump developments at the time was noted by Donald Trump, Jr. at a real estate conference in 2008 when he stated; “We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.” As it turns out, the majority of this “money pouring in” was the handy work of one Michael Cohen, the same guy who says he used a home equity line of credit to pay porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet about his client The Donald.
It hasn’t been lost on me that while Trump, Sean Hannity and host of other Fox News goons have railed against Robert Mueller, Mr. Mueller has just kept his head down and keeps churning out the indictments. There isn’t a battle of the wits going on between Trump and Mueller, it isn’t even a fair fight. Intellectually and ethically, Robert Mueller is running circles around Trump and the latest development with Cohen is a prime example of that.
You see, Trump can clean house from Attorney General Jeff Sessions all the way down to Robert Mueller but the Michael Cohen investigation will carry on as many if not most of the investigations will. Mueller is smart like that. This ain’t his first rodeo. He has spent his entire career dealing with bully’s, thugs and criminals and while General Bone Spurs was winning bowling trophies in college, Mueller was receiving the Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals in Vietnam. There really is no contest, Trump is outmatched on all ends.
Michael Cohen was the one rock Trump was confident no one would, or could look under. But Trump himself, when he opened his big mouth and told the world I don’t know anything about Stormy Daniels or the $130,000 you will need to ask Michael Cohen lifted that rock up just enough to let a little daylight in and allowed Federal Investigators to slide their fingers under it. When you tell the world “I don’t know nutin about no $130,000” it becomes very difficult to claim attorney-client privilege particularly when the attorney and the “client” both state that the attorney was acting on their own accord with no knowledge or acknowledgement from the “client”.
In any other setting, in any other context, in any other country this would be must see television but sadly this is our drama, our political soap opera. The one thing we can all be confident in is the man running the show, Robert Mueller. His love for this country, his patriotism and his pursuit of justice can not be denied or smeared despite the efforts of Sean Hannity. Some die-hard Deplorables will never be convinced, but their numbers are shrinking, fast. Check the obituaries. Lots of old, conservative, white people are dying everyday. Stay tuned.
