The juggler in chief

Ball number one; I didn’t need to watch Fox News and Sean Hannity last night. Honestly, I didn’t think I would learn anything new and for the short amount of time that I did watch I didn’t. As Hannity has done since Trump was elected, he spent 99% of his hour being the big sister Trump never had defending her little brother from the big bad bully’s calling her baby brother ugly names. Last night that big bad bully was once again former FBI Director James Comey.

For those of you not playing along, Comey has written a book that is very critical of Trump and again the term we reference when we talk about Comey is “former”. For whatever reason, Hannity and Trump spend a lot of time and energy talking about people in the past like Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and now James Comey. The story line they both like to create is a very simple one, (remember who they are speaking too, which is why they talk slow, use little words and include lots of pictures) Trump is being persecuted by the “Deep State” and the Deplorables should be pissed off about it.

Hannity did spend the last few minutes of his show explaining his “relationship” with Trumps personal attorney Michael Cohen. As he explained; “Let me set the record straight, here’s the truth: Michael Cohen never represented me in any legal matter. I never retained his services. I never received an invoice. I never paid Michael Cohen for legal fees. I did have occasional, brief conversations with Michael Cohen, this great attorney, about legal questions I had.”

So who is telling the truth Cohen or Hannity? Isn’t that the same question we have all been asking ourselves for the last 15 months?

Ball number two; maybe you don’t remember, it was only a couple of months ago and at this point, minutes seem like hours and months seem like years in all things Trump. When The Donald was waging his twitter war on, again, former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe his main point of contention was that he thought McCabe was really a “secret” Hillary Clinton Democrat which is to say he was part of the “Deep State” (see above).

Hannity devoted many days of his show railing against “The Democrat” Andrew McCabe and still does, but here is a fun fact we learned yesterday about the new attorney representing “our” President in the Michael Cohen case, she is a card-carrying, wait for it, Democrat. That’s right, Trump has had to “scrape the bottom of the barrel” to find an attorney and has hired a left leaning liberal to represent him.

Trumps inability to find legal representation really isn’t that surprising to anyone. Just look at the number of people he has burned through in his administration in 15 short months. No one wants to work with the guy in the White House so why in the heck would anyone want to represent him in court? Legally, Trump is in a world of hurt right now on many fronts with no one at the helm heading his legal defense.

As former Justice Department spokesman Mark Corallo noted in Politico Magazine; “when you see the way the president has treated some of his attorneys, a lot of very senior lawyers would look at that and say, ‘I don’t need the aggravation. I’ve built a reputation and I’m not going to have my client purposefully embarrass me or humiliate me or be attacked by people within the White House on the president’s staff and those who are close to him who find their way on to the television screen and into the newspapers to carry messages from the president.”

Ball number three; The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that additional Russian sanctions were coming. Haley even went so far as to say that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin would implement those additional economic sanctions on Russia Monday. That would be yesterday. Apparently Vladimir Putin hadn’t signed off on those sanctions just yet because “our” President decided they weren’t necessary despite the fact that his U.S. Ambassador to the UN appeared on the national news and said they were coming.

The optics of this, at least for me, don’t look very good. Why would Ms. Haley take it upon herself to announce something that her boss, Trump, hadn’t signed off on? Honestly if this doesn’t smell fishy, Russian fishy, I am not sure anyone will ever accept the fact that Putin has Trump under his thumb.

This is an important story but it won’t get much airtime because of all the other balls, see above, that Trump is juggling in front of us.

The Deplorables continue to believe that Trumps Syrian attacks “prove” as he likes to point out, that no one has been tougher on Russia than him. The cold, hard reality is this, those bombing raids weren’t a big secret. Hell, Trump tweeted about them, said they were coming. And before they happened, even the military big wigs announced at the press conference that Russia and Syria were provided “notice” prior to the commencement of the bombing assault so that the airspace would be clear. So much for the element of surprise.

Ball number four; shit I am tired. I could spend the rest of the day writing about ball four, five, six, seven……. At some point the clown in the White House will begin dropping one ball after the other. The lies will catch-up to him, Putin will tire of him and will release the stockpile of information he has hanging over The Donald’s head. What is Putin waiting for? That moment when Trump is buried under a mound of balls with no hope for recovery and when it appears this country is teetering on the edge of civil unrest and discourse.

  1. So sad. Many issues that truly need Presidential attention and we don’t have a President.

  4. His chaos-driven business style may have served the Trump empire well. On national and global scales, it becomes ever more difficult to keep all those chaotic balls in play.
