Threading the needle

“Mr. Cohen, an attorney, received a monthly retainer, not from the campaign and having nothing to do with the campaign, from which he entered into, through reimbursement, a private contract between two parties, known as a non-disclosure agreement, or NDA. These agreements are very common among celebrities and people of wealth. In this case it is in full force and effect and will be used in Arbitration for damages against Ms. Clifford (Daniels). The agreement was used to stop the false and extortionist accusations made by her about an affair despite already having signed a detailed letter admitting that there was no affair. Prior to its violation by Ms. Clifford and her attorney, this was a private agreement. Money from the campaign, or campaign contributions, played no roll in this transaction.” – Trump tweet (Yeah, right. More like Trump copy and paste tweet) 5-3-18

So Trump pushed Rudy Giuliani out last night to appear on the Sean Hannity show and in conjunction with the tweet above, pushed him out again this morning to appear on Fox & Friends to both clarify and emphasize the points he made last night. As I noted in a previous post, Trumps “selection” of Giuliani isn’t a legal play but purely a media play and the last 14 hours prove that point.

Why would Trump, after months of lying about Stormy Daniels and the $130,000 payment, finally acknowledge it? Hell who knows. Just last month he told the press he knew nothing about the payments, NOTHING and that the press should contact his attorney, Michael Cohen, for any clarification.

Cohen noted at the time that he used a home equity line of credit to make the payment and that “Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford (Stormy Daniels), and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly.” Giuliani contradicted that statement last night stating “That was money that was paid by his lawyer, the way I would do, out of his law firm funds or whatever funds, it doesn’t matter. The president reimbursed that over a period of several months.” Two lies or just two versions of the same story?

“A lie told often enough becomes the truth.” – Vladimir Lenin

Now this revelation really doesn’t surprise most of us. We all know that Trump is a liar, at least most of us know that. But why reveal this now? My only thought is that Trump hopes that by running around in circles we will all get dizzy and for his Deplorable base, that might just work. Can any of you imagine the kind of shit President Obama would be getting from the GOP and the Deplorable base if he was dealing with just 10% of the shit Trump is wading through? Think about it. Just the lies and the payments to a Porn star and a Playboy Bunny would be a case for impeachment if Obama was still President.

But Rudy talked about more than Stormy last night. He also stated that Trump fired former FBI director James Comey because he wouldn’t offer public assurances that Trump wasn’t a target of an investigation. “He fired Comey because Comey would not, among other things, say that he wasn’t a target of the investigation. He’s entitled to that. Hillary Clinton got that and he couldn’t get that. So he fired him and he said, ‘I’m free of this guy.’” Do any of you remember this tweet from Trump on 4-18-18; “Slippery James Comey, the worst FBI Director in history, was not fired because of the phony Russia investigation where, by the way, there was NO COLLUSION (except by the Dems)!” So who is right?

“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.” –  Winston Churchill

What Rudy has been attempting to do for the last 14 hours is to thread a needle with a piece of rope. He is trying to clean-up all the stories that have been told, all the lies, upon lies that Trump has stacked on top of each other. But unfortunately what Rudy has done is create more questions rather than answers. Trump and Rudy have accused Stormy Daniels of extortion. They confirmed Comey’s assertion that Trump wanted his loyalty. That Trump wanted Comey to operate within the parameters he set and because Comey wouldn’t Trump fired him. That ladies and gentleman is a clear case of obstruction of justice.

Trump, for whatever multitude of reasons, believes the rule of law simply does not apply to him. But money, power, fame even the presidency is no excuse for lies and deceit. I have every confidence in the world that this man will not complete his term and he will go down as a sad footnote in presidential history. I don’t know when but it feels like it is getting closer.

Today is the National Day of Prayer so I leave you with this; “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

  1. First, how many freakin’ characters IS that tweet? Second, is Rudy the designated tweeter on all things legal? Third, we probably need a National WEEK of Prayer at this point.

You mentioned the “deplorables” (surprise!) … and it got me to thinking. First, they probably swallowed whatever Giuliani said to Hannity, vigorously nodding their heads in agreement.

BUT .. perhaps … just perhaps … they might also have experienced a brief moment of confusion when they thought back on all they’d heard from their magnificent MAGA leader about the situation.

But then the story gets another spin (refuting, of course, all the bad stuff) the next day and Voila! They’re back to dedicated and undying devotion and support.

SMH at the gullibility of some people.

    • Baffle them with bullshit. Wait until the soybean farmers start applying for welfare. That will wake the base up.

It’s worse than that, Nan. They dismiss the entire “Stormy Daniels” matter as snowflakes having a meltdown. It’s not important – none of it is. Not that he cheated on his wife (I elected him to be president, not pastor), not that he lied (it was a legal agreement!), not that he lied about that (what do you expect, the evil media is hounding the poor man!). Nothing.
Oh, there’s some utterly gleeful pointing out what a ‘whore’ Ms Daniels is, and some very Christian (hum hum) jokes about mosquitoes vs porn stars.

It’s seems like pure indoctrination at this point. No amount of even the simplest facts will make a dent.
