Trump LIE: “The Democrats are forcing the breakup of families at the Border with their horrible and cruel legislative agenda. Any Immigration Bill MUST HAVE full funding for the Wall, end Catch & Release, Visa Lottery and Chain, and go to Merit Based Immigration. Go for it! WIN!” – 6/15/18

This is a picture of children at Ellis Island waiting to be processed in to the United States. From 1892 until 1954 Ellis Island was the gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the U.S. The busiest immigration inspection station for over 60 years. Your great-grandmother might be in this picture. Maybe your grandfather or your mother. It is estimated that 40 percent of today’s Americans, 130,000,000 of us, are descendants of the foreigners who passed through Ellis Island.

The reasons people left their home country’s then with little more than the clothes on their backs to come to America are the same reasons they come today. What strikes me though as the one glaring difference between this old picture and today immigrants attempting to enter this country is the color of their skin. If Trump, his attorney general Jeff Sessions and the Deplorable base were honest with themselves they would confirm and admit what most of us already know, that racial bias’ is the reason for the current administrations hard stance on immigration.

Arizona Republican Rep. David Stringer, speaking to the Yavapai County Republican Men’s Forum, verbalized the rational for the Trump immigration policy when he stated; “Sixty percent of public school children in the state of Arizona today are minorities. That complicates racial integration because there aren’t enough white kids to go around.” He further explained the fear, the fear that Trump seized on and the fear that got him elected when he said “If we don’t do something about immigration very, very soon, the demographics of our country will be irrevocably changed and we will be a very different country and we will not be the country you were born into.”

Both sides of my family came to and settled in America in the 1,600’s. They left England, Scotland and Ireland for reasons unknown and congregated in an area that would become North Carolina and more specifically Anson and Union counties. But even with my deep and lengthy American pedigree I don’t feel a sense or a need to guard or protect my heritage. My family is not native to this country and no amount of years here will ever change that.

“We will not be the country you were born into.” This is the fear that Trump and Sessions are peddling to their white, conservative, christian base. They have convinced the Deplorables that the only way to prevent the browning of America is to rip children away from their mothers, separate families, hold them in isolation, break their will, break their hope and send them back across the border. Trumps immigration policy that Sessions is enforcing is about 1% crime and 99% bigotry and racism. Hell, Sessions is even quoting the bible to justify the horrendous actions he is implementing; “I would cite you to the Apostle Paul and his clear and wise command in Romans 13 to obey the laws of the government because God has ordained the government for his purposes. Orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves. Consistent, fair application of law is in itself a good and moral thing and that protects the weak, it protects the lawful. Our policies that can result in short-term separation of families are not unusual or unjustified.”

This is the new “Ellis Island”. See the difference?

I guess Sessions and the Evangelicals decided to conveniently skip this verse; “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” That is the “great” thing about the Bible, you can find anything and everything you need to justify your sins against God, against Jesus and against humanity.
