Over on Fox News

My wife and I watch Rachel Maddow almost every night. I guess that makes us elite liberals to Trumps Deplorable base because we watch that “big lesbian” as I heard some intellectual midget describe her one day. Last night we didn’t. Last night both of us needed a break from Trump world so we watched some cooking show and then I watched the last half hour of Deadliest Catch.

But before I headed to bed I flipped over to the Rachel Maddow Show and saw the segment above. Trumpers would say what I watching was a big, liberal, fake news, lesbian boo-hooing on television. What I say I was watching was a Stanford graduate, a Rhodes Scholar with a PhD from Oxford University in Politics react, as a human being, to an emotional, tragic story. That, my friends, is the difference between us and them. The difference between those of us that watch the “Fake News” and those that watch the Fox News and if you haven’t noticed, the divide is great and getting greater.

The child immigrant crisis is non-news on Fox News. Hannity covered maybe ten minutes of the issue last night towards the end of his hour-long program. On the Fox News website the main headline is FBI may have altered witness reports from Hillary, Russia probes, key lawmaker charges and then way down at the bottom ‘Children in crisis:’ Babies, ‘tender age’ kids being taken from parents, held in shelters, according to reports.

As Politico Magazine has reported, the Trump immigration policy is the biggest story in America right now, but readers and viewers of Fox News simply don’t want to hear about it. One Fox News insider stated “When there’s a topic like this, which is very uncomfortable for a certain segment of the audience, they just are looking the other way.” Doesn’t that sound like the typical profile of a Trump supporter, “they just are looking the other way”? Evangelicals look the other way when we talk about Trump and porn stars. Family Value advocates look the other way when someone mentions Trumps three marriages and his adulterous affairs. Human beings look the other way when children are held in cages, ripped out of the arms of their mothers and fathers.

My youngest asked a very simple question this morning, “How does it get better?” and the only answer I could give her was vote in November. We can’t muzzle Trump, or Sean Hannity, or Fox News, or the Deplorable cousin you will see at Thanksgiving but we can neuter them. We can cut their nut sacks off with a vote in November. We can change the politics of both the Congress and the Senate with a vote in November. We can change the politics of this country with a vote in November. We don’t need many, just enough for a majority, a majority of one will be plenty.

Taking back Congress and the Senate won’t shut Trump or Hannity up but if we grab them by the nuts it will make their voices a little squeaker and certainly a lot less powerful. VOTE, it’s the only way your voice will be heard. VOTE.

Gotta get busy organizing the squirrels.

  2. I understand about “taking a break” from the news. Me too. But I watched all of Chris, Rachel, and Lawrence last night. Got angry with Chris, cried with Rachel. I like the term “neuter”. It brings images of an orange-coiffed buffoon strutting around holding his detached genitalia in hand screaming, “The Democrats did it.” Yeah, I am watching too much TV maybe.

  3. Contrast that Rachel Maddow video with one of Corey Lewandowski in an interview on Fox News reacting to the news of a 10-year-old girl with Down Syndrome being taken from her mother. That’ll get your blood boiling.

I simply cannot fathom how “some” people are able to put politics before humans.

A family member told me I (as a liberal) did not support my country. What they really want me to do is support the president. I just share the facts, and as this post highlights, he and those who support him seem to have lost sight of their humanity. So, I will absolutely vote. And in doing so, I will be part of the solution, because yes…..I support this country and I support humanity. To look the other way in the name of “supporting the president” is the worst kind of hypocrisy.
