South Carolina: The Republican White Party

“Henry McMaster has done a great job as Governor of South Carolina. The state is BOOMING, with jobs and new industry setting records. He is tough on Crime and Strong on Borders, Healthcare, the Military and our great Vets. Henry has my full and complete Endrosement!” – Trump tweet 6/21/18

For those of you wondering who Henry McMaster is imagine the cartoon character Foghorn Leghorn, yea I know that dates me, and that is “my” Governor. McMaster struts around like a rooster and speaks with a loooooong, slow, southern drawl. I have a looong (3 o’s), slow, southern drawl but nothing like Henry’s unless of course I have had a beer or 12 then I have been known to add an extra o or three to my speech. For whatever reason there seems to be a correlation to the number of beers I drink and the number of o’s I add, but I digress.

Foghorn Leghorn I mean Henry got the job of governor when Nikki Haley got promoted to become the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. For the last four months McMaster has spent millions of dollars running television ads showing him and Trump together talking about all the “winning” they have and will do together. Trump and Pence are even headed to the state next week to campaign for Henry who is in a runoff. It is a safe bet that I will not be attending this ego rally nor will I be invited to attend.

In typical Trump fashion his endorsement tweet of Henry mentions all the white Deplorable buzz words you would expect, tough on crime, healthcare, military, vets, blah, blah, blah but this is the one I love, Strong on Borders. Let me give you a geography lesson, South Carolina is a triangle bordered by North Carolina, Georgia and the Atlantic ocean. Maybe Trump and Henry know something that I don’t know but I have never heard or felt threatened by North Carolina or Georgia or by some rouge Sea Bass attempting to invade my state.

McMaster is running on all of the hot button issues of The Republican White Party, protecting life, protecting Christians and protecting guns. His opponent in the runoff, John Warren, is running on the same Republican White Party issues just without the backing of Trump. The real difference between the two? 32 years in age.

Obviously I don’t want either man to govern my state. In my mind there are more important issues we should be concerned about than abortion, Christians and guns. But South Carolina is dominated by The Republican White Party, we are a blood-red state so that isn’t a realistic wish. But if McMaster loses this coming Tuesday, after such a hard and visible push from Trump, that would give me some semblance of hope, hope that maybe my neighbors are just as tired of Trump’s bullshit as I am.

The last time South Carolina elected a Democrat for governor was in 1998, 20 years ago and he survived just one term. That race was actually an anomaly, the Democratic candidate was backed by a video poker businessman who spent millions upon millions to defeat the incumbent Republican who wanted to do away with video poker. It was a weird race but it showed me how easily people could be influenced through the power of media, basically how stupid and gullible we really are. That gullibility is what The Republican White Party is banking on in South Carolina. It is what Trump is selling and what Henry “Foghorn Leghorn” McMaster is happy to spread on thick like Duke Mayonnaise on two slices of white bread for a tomato sandwich.

This is a race to watch but sadly I will be very surprised if Trump doesn’t prevail. We simply have to many dumb, white, rednecks to contend with unless of course they are wiped out by a gang of angry flounders who penetrate our strong Atlantic ocean border then who knows what could happen.

“I will be going the Columbia, South Carolina, on Monday night to do a campaign speech for one of my very early supporters, a man who truly loves the people of South Carolina, Governor Henry McMaster. Henry worked so hard & was so loyal to me that I look forward to reciprocating!” – Trump tweet 6/21/18

  3. Henry Lewis says:

Being from North Carolina originally, it’s always been tough to try to explain the difference in the two Carolinas to people who’ve never lived in (much less been to) the South. You pretty much summed up all the characteristics of Dixie in general!

    • I too was born in NC but have lived in SC for over 30 years now. The biggest difference, at least to me is NC has more educated rednecks, SC has more white-trash rednecks who are damn proud of it I might add. The logic, SC has fewer metropolitan areas, basically just three compared to NC’s dozen or so and of those dozen most have Universities.

  4. Great post! You are dead on with the comparison to Foghorn Leghorn!
Dear Henry is working hard to make a name for himself. He has his eye on the oval office.
I can’t let that happen and try to get the truth out wherever I can.
