The Republican White Party

Day after day all we heard from Trump, from Attorney General Jeff Sessions, from Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and from Trump’s policy adviser Sean Hannity is that the administration’s highly controversial policy of separating undocumented immigrant children from their parents could only be fixed by Congress. Let me say it another way, Trump claims he was just enforcing the law, a law that didn’t exist, with actions he alone created. Don’t believe me, or maybe you selective hearing Deplorables have forgotten. Let me refresh your memory;

Trump: “So what I’m asking Congress to do is to give us a third option, which we have been requesting since last year — the legal authority to detain and promptly remove families together as a unit. We have to be able to do this. This is the only solution to the border crisis. We have to stop child smuggling. This is the way to do it.”

Sessions: “What we want is a safe, lawful system of immigration that would end this question altogether. We want to build a wall to prevent illegal entry. Congress could make that happen quickly — and they should.”

Nielsen: “Until these loopholes are closed by Congress, it is not possible, as a matter of law, to detain and remove whole family units who arrive illegally in the United States. Congress and the courts created this problem, and Congress alone can fix it. Until then, we will enforce every law we have on the books to defend the sovereignty and security of the United States.”

Sanders: “There’s only one body here that gets to create legislation and it’s Congress. Our job is to enforce it, and we would like to see Congress fix it. That’s why the President has repeatedly called on them to work with him to do just that.”

Hannity: “No one likes the idea of separating any child from any parent, but this issue has been in the hands of Congress. And right now, the whole issue can be fixed. Every law can be changed, and if they did their job, it would happen.”

So what have Trump, Sessions, Nielsen, Sanders and Hannity been doing for the last week as 2,500 children were torn away from their families? Let’s all say it together

You know it, I know it but do you know who refuses to acknowledge it? The Republican White Party.

Trump went to Duluth, Minnesota last night to stand before, as he claims “9,000 people, and at least 10,000 who could not get in” Republican white people and as he has done in the past at these ego rallies he spent the time belittling others and telling the Republican white people of Duluth how great he is. And guess what, the Republican white people yelled and screamed and fawned all over him despite having just been caught in a lie, a big lie because they don’t give a shit about brown people. They don’t give a shit about anyone except American, Christian, conservative white people. This is officially the party of Trump, this is The Republican White Party.

Trump thinks and The Republican White Party believe that with a stroke of a pen yesterday Trump saved the day by solving a problem he created. Let me say that again, Trump solved a problem that HE created. But here is what going to happen over the coming days and weeks, stories. Stories of abuse. Stories of anguish and despair. Stories of children who will never be reunited with their families. Stories about brown people who The Republican White Party will simply ignore.

Trump and The Republican White Party think they are winning but history is against them, the future is against them and I am against them and I will continue to resist as long as the The Republican White Party exist.

    I guess I should really be thankful my MEXICAN mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother didn’t get “stopped the border” those oh-so-many years ago. Else … I might not exist.

    BTW, in case I have made it clear in past comments … TRUMP SUCKS!

  4. I’m glad you’re in it for the long haul. Me too. What is happening is beyond reprehensible and rests mostly on Repubs shoulders. But it’s my hope that White Dems and progressives look at their own racism. I was and have been sorely hurt and disappointed by the attenuated white liberal response when innocent black men were killed in the street. PC’s death was recorded and watched repeatedly without a resounding uproar. And there was a 4 yo in the back seat. There were no tears on national TV from well known white liberal pundits, no reporters wanting to get in and see what’s really happening in the precincts and victims lives, no politicians coming forward to say it’s happening in their city and needs to end, no tolerance let alone expectation for Pres. BO to fix with an executive order. Again, what’s happening is horrific and clearly racist. But white republicans don’t solely own that mentality.
    Disclaimer: As a Black woman married to a White man with 3 biracial children, let me say I am still learning about my deep seeded ignorance. And by grace alone improving. No one is immune. No one ever will be.

    • Ms. Mayisha as I have said before I am not perfect. I still use adjectives to describe people short, tall, fat, bald, black, gay, etc. Its an old pattern, which is no excuse, but I don’t use these words out of malice or hate just ignorance as my children like to point out. And if someone with my political bent and nature is still dealing with personal ignorance I can only imagine the actions and the words coming out of the mouths of ignorant Deplorables who just don’t give a shit.

      The world is changing. You are a black woman married to a white man in the south. I am sure you still turn a few heads but not like you would have in 1970’s and I pray fewer still in 2020. It is hard to ask someone to be patient when you feel like the only person giving but I have confidence, which is more than hope, that the world ahead will be a better place for my children and yours because of the shit we have dealt with and overcome from the shit head named Trump and his merry band of Deplorables.
