“The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, is dead. She was a great woman, with a wonderful gift from God, her voice. She will be missed!” – Trump tweet 8-16-18

I read this oh so sympathetic and eloquent tweet and thought about some old cowboy movie when the Marshall was dictating a Western Union telegram asking for reinforcements because the Ballard Boys were in town shooting up the place. See if you agree;

  1. The Queen of Soul-stop
  2. Aretha Franklin-stop
  3. Is dead-stop
  4. She was a great woman-stop
  5. With a wonderful gift from God-stop
  6. Her voice-stop
  7. She will be missed-stop

Can’t you just picture Trump sitting in his room this morning watching Fox News with his “senior advisor” Stephen (Hermann Göring) Miller when the news crawled across the screen that Aretha Franklin had passed away.

He and Hermann had spent the morning coming up with some real zingers like “THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA IS THE OPPOSITION PARTY. It is very bad for our Great Country….BUT WE ARE WINNING!” and “There is nothing that I would want more for our Country than true FREEDOM OF THE PRESS. The fact is that the Press is FREE to write and say anything it wants, but much of what it says is FAKE NEWS, pushing a political agenda or just plain trying to hurt people. HONESTY WINS!” They were on a roll. Who can we rip on next? But then, damn this lady dies, you know that black singer lady who was friends of that black guy who used to be President, old what’s his name. You know the Muslim who was born in Kenya. Shit, I guess I need to say something like…… shit Hermann help me out here. What should I say?

  1. The Queen of Soul-stop
  2. Aretha Franklin-stop
  3. Is dead-stop
  4. She was a great woman-stop
  5. With a wonderful gift from God-stop
  6. Her voice-stop
  7. She will be missed-stop

I hope The Donald never had to tell his kids that their cat got hit by a car. That would have been traumatic and probably would have scarred them for life.

  1. Fluffy-stop
  2. The cat-stop
  3. Is dead-stop
  4. She was hit-stop
  5. By a car-stop
  6. Blood and guts-stop
  7. Everywhere-stop

Honestly, the reason Trump struggles and stumbles on a very simple messages like this is clear, he doesn’t have a compassionate bone in his body. Aretha didn’t like him. Aretha didn’t support him. Hell Aretha sang at that black guys inauguration that was way smaller than Trumps. Why would Trump give a shit about her. He said it she’s “dead”, so what. Trump’s thinking, I am still here so I win, bigly!

On the other side of the compassionate scale this is what a message from a real human being sounds like; “Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade—our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace.” Yup, you guessed it Barack Obama.‏

Larry Paul Brown and Scottie if I were you I would pack my bags today and move to Asheville, or Austin or maybe Portland. Get out of Florida now because once King Clown leaves the White House, by hook or crook, I am pretty certain that the Sunshine State will turn into the Deplorable State, Trumpville, USA. I suspect y’all are already at about 80% capacity now. Once Big Con, I mean Don sets his palace up in Mar-a-Lago, which I assume will also be the home of his Presidential bookcase, I just couldn’t bring myself to call it a library, my guess is the state will fill to the brim with old, fat, white guys and gals in tank tops, cut-off jeans, sandals, black socks and red baseball caps. Just remember “If you build it they will come” and they are coming, they are probably gassing up their trucks as we speak. RUN!

  1. Presidential bookcase? Hell, I won’t even give him a shelf in my bathroom. My bags are packed, buddy. He will probably turn 1000 acres of pristine, Florida swampland into a Trump theme park. We’ll call it the “Swampy Trumpy”. EEEEEEEEHAW

Walking at North Myrtle Beach today , I saw two huge flags planted in the sand “ Donald Trump 2020 “ and “Trump Make America Great Again”. Talk about a ruined vacation!!!

  3. Aretha was truly one of a kind. How lucky we were to have her around in our generation. And her music will live long after our generation’s outta here. Her title, Queen of Soul, was well deserved.
His title, President of the United States, is sure as hell not.

Nicely done post on a sad subject. As for Florida and the state of this state, there is some good news. Do you remember the territory called Puerto Rico? tRump forgot about them, and because of the state of the island, a lot of them moved to Florida. And they can vote in the primaries. The can not vote directly for president or congress, but again they can vote in the primaries and help us move the state left. They can and will canvas and help get the vote out. You are correct that this state has a lot of old people retired here. However a very large slice of that is Jewish. With what tRump and crew have done to embolden the Nazi movement, that doesn’t sit well with the Jewish population. I think Florida will go blue this year. Hugs

Oh dear, I’m another Floridian and the irony is I left Asheville a few years ago after my husband died. I did love it there and miss the artsy progressiveness of the area, but my blood needed warmth and Fla is much less expensive. But Scottie is right about the old folks and I find many trumpers here. Luckily I have like minded friends. I hope the Puerto Ricans and other ethnic groups here realize the importance of voting and surely they see the danger of this man.

  6. Well said. I DO like your post.
The Queen is now singing with the angels…. and her voice fits right in.
All that’s left for us are recordings. Indeed: she will be missed.
