King of the Jews

The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies….

“President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world…and the Jewish people in Israel love him like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God…But American Jews don’t know him or like him. They don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore. It makes no sense! But that’s OK, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s good for all Jews, Blacks, Gays, everyone. And importantly, he’s good for everyone in America who wants a job.” – Trump re-tweet 8-21-19

So the soldiers took charge of Jesus. Carrying his own cross, he went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). There they crucified him, and with him two others—one on each side and Jesus in the middle.

Pilate had a notice prepared and fastened to the cross. It read: Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.  Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek. The chief priests of the Jews protested to Pilate, “Do not write ‘The King of the Jews,’ but that this man claimed to be king of the Jews.”

Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.” – John 19:16-22

Of all the issues Trump is stumbling through this, in my mind, is one of the most interesting and probably, in the short-term, potentially deadliest. I just finished a book, A Match Made in Heaven by Zev Chafets which deals with the “Weird and Wonderful” relationship between American Evangelicals and their love and support of Israel.

Did you see I didn’t write love and support of Israel Jews? Evangelicals believe that the gathering of the Jews in Israel is a prerequisite for the Second Coming of Jesus. In short, Jews are a necessary evil in the minds of Evangelicals nothing more, nothing less and for the Jews of Israel they will take American money, and protection anyway they can get it.

Ask any Evangelical if Jews will go to heaven and they will all answer the same, not unless they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Chosen people? Maybe, once, but in the Evangelical mind, Jesus changed all that. In the Evangelical world Jews are simply placeholders, here to occupy the Holy Land and keep it out of the hands of those barbarians, the Muslims.

Keep an eye on this topic. Keeping Israel secure and ready for Jesus’ arrival is more important to Evangelicals than keeping gay men from having abortions. But this continued and in your face attention will not play well in the Muslim world. For decades, Christians and Jews have promoted Israel as “theirs” exclusively, but Israel is also home to important and Holy sites for Muslims. This will get ugly.

  1. Well said. “Imagine there’s no heaven and no religion, too.” John Lennon nailed it.

I have several pen pals in Israel and Palestine, and things have been getting ugly since Trump took office. They are not so much aware or afraid of the cheeto as they are Mike Pence. They, both Jews and Muslims, feel as if his religion will impact them more and more negatively as time goes on.

In my “pentecostal” days, I definitely remember all the discussion related to Israel and the Jews and the Second Coming. Oh yes. It was a prime topic … and of course, we simply knew it would come to pass because, well, the bible says so.

A country run by a egotistical maniac, followed by Christian idiots, racist rednecks and groveling republicans, so they can keep their measly little jobs..
    What could possibly go wrong..

  5. It’s been ugly in the Middle East for a long time … somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000 years. The Arabs and Israelis hate each other … even though they all claim descent from Abraham (i.e., they’re cousins) … and, (historically) they all hate the Persians (i.e., the Iranians). As for the Evangelicals, several months ago, a caller to an NPR program had the most descriptive name for them that I’ve heard … Hypochristians.
