To Ms. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott:
Over the last four years Donald Trump has made it perfectly and abundantly clear if he dislikes, disagrees, or even hates something or someone. How do we know? Just look at his tweets. Fake News, Lame Stream Media, Crooked Hillary, Little Adam Schiff, Cheatin’ Obama, Crazy Maxine Waters, Pocahontas, Crazy Bernie, Sleepy Creepy Joe and Nervous Nancy are just of a few of the names Trump assigns to show his distaste, displeasure and disdain. But for whatever reason Trump has a much more difficult time condemning or even distancing himself from white supremacy groups. Have you ever wondered why?
The words are simple, the statement is simple, the actions are even simpler but when asked by Chris Wallace if he would be willing to condemn white supremacists, all Trump could muster was a “Sure”. In the meantime, the Proud Boys have updated their logo with “Stand Back and Stand By” because Trump simply cannot denounce this or any other white nationalist hate group because he is afraid he will offend his confederate flag flying white base.
Trump said in his inaugural speech that American carnage stops right here and stops right now. Has he accomplished that in four years? No, not even close. I would contend that the carnage has increased ten-fold on his short watch and that he is responsible for most if not all of it. He has done everything within his power to unite white people and nothing for everyone else except divide and suppress. He repeats the refrain that he alone has done more for black people in four years than possibly Abraham Lincoln while telling white suburbanites that he will keep low-income housing projects out of their neighborhoods, wink, wink.
Like many Americans, I had hoped that Trump would settle into the job and understand and accept the enormous responsibilities of being President of the United States for all its citizens. That the pompous, crass, demeaning, and contentious candidate Trump was just a show, an act. But unfortunately, it was not an act, it has been a horrible realty show, one we have suffered through for four years. And the worse part, YOU, elected to serve and represent us, have sat on your hands, kept your mouth shut and have done nothing to reel this man and his divisive, ugly language and actions in. Nothing.
I know this message to you is a waste of time, but it does make me feel better to write it. You have forever hooked your wagon to the Trump train wreck. I guess you can be proud that you got the opportunity to stack the courts for the next 20 years. But when scholars and historians look back on what I hope will be Trumps one term, they will examine all the collateral damage he has caused this country and will agree judges were not worth all the “carnage”.
