When grownups are in charge

My kids are young adults, 30 and 27. They are both independent young ladies making their way in the world. But occasionally I still get a call to help them navigate a task that they both refer to as “adulting”. Buying new tires was a recent “adulting” task one wanted my help on. Renegotiating homeowners’ insurance was another.

Yes, they call me because I am their Dad but also because I have 60 years of “adulting” experience. Sometimes they just want my opinion, confirmation of a decision they have made. Other times my help in working through the available options. I understand why they do it because once upon a time I did it too, with my own parents and other close adults. It is comforting to know that you can lean on others who are willing to help and share their experience without them making you feel stupid or small. That’s what people do for each other, no emotion, no ego, just care and kindness.

Since The Former Guy (TFG) packed his Power Ranger lunch box and left Washington kicking and screaming I have felt a sense of calm and tranquility that I haven’t experienced in many years. Other than the local and national news, I don’t spend much time watching Rachel Maddow, or Chuck Todd anymore. It’s not that I don’t care but more I don’t need to be as concerned and the reason is simple, once again there are grownups in charge in Washington.

Now I would be lying if I didn’t admit to still creeping on TFG from time to time. The difference is now I do it out of morbid curiosity rather than genuine fright or concern. His relevance, his importance will continue to fade for the vast majority of Americans and who will still be hanging on are those that have figured out how to make a buck off him, and the 20% percent or so of the chain-smoking, toothless, white trash that view him as the second coming of Jesus Christ to fulfil the Ku Klux Klan’s prophecy of white Christian freedom and supremacy.

There isn’t any doubt we still have problems in this country a number of which were caused by TFG. But think for a minute, has Joe Biden said or done anything that embarrasses you? Has he made excuses or blamed other people for mistakes? Has he called anybody fat or ugly? The biggest difference between Joe Biden and TFG is this, it’s really simple, Joe Biden is working for us, this country, you and I. TFG was only interested in one thing himself, feeding his ego, and strutting around like a big, orange, swinging dick.

If we have learned anything about Joe Biden in his first 65 or so days it is this, Joe has a plan and Joe has surrounded himself with grown-ups to make sure his plans are executed, stay on track, and are completed. Can you imagine TFR attempting to get 100 million people vaccinated in 100 days? Hell, Joe did it in half that time and moved the goalpost to 200 million in 100 days. And what was TFG’s response to Joe’s incredible feat of 100 million people vaccinated; “I hope everyone remembers when they’re getting the COVID-19 (often referred to as the China Virus) Vaccine, that if I wasn’t President, you wouldn’t be getting that beautiful ‘shot’ for 5 years, at best, and probably wouldn’t be getting it at all”. I don’t miss that needy piece of shit. Do you? Florida can keep his fat, orange ass.

About ends and beginnings blog

I am a frustrated writer and poet waiting to be discovered. A stand-up philosopher performing on a street corner near you. A Christian with questions but I don’t want to hear your answers. A Buddhist with a bumper sticker on my truck to prove it. A collector of quotes. A grower of lettuce. The Patron Saint of earthworms who name their children after me. A cyclist whose big ass strains the seams of his Lycra bibs. I am American by birth, Southern by the grace of God. My goal in life is to leave an imprint on the lives of the people I love not a footprint on the earth. I am a son, a husband, a father composed of 65%-Oxygen, 18%-Carbon, 10%-Hydrogen, 3%-Nitrogen, 3%-Diet Coke and 1%-Oreo.

Hasn’t made much difference to me. The wife still manages to dredge up all sorts of nonsense on the intertubes regarding TFG to complain about. Guess who she complains to 😦

I think that because she’s had such a hateful fascination of TFG for such a long time, Google, Youtube et al. feed her everything they can find on the subject.
