The Trump Effect

“My political representatives didn’t want me to get involved in the Mark Sanford primary thinking that Sanford would easily win – but with a few hours left I felt that Katie was such a good candidate, and Sanford was so bad, I had to give it a shot. Congrats to Katie Arrington!” – Trump tweet 6-13-18

My friend called me after the election to crow about the TRUMP EFFECT (cue the thunder);

Bobby: “One tweet and he rips old Sanford a new one.”

Me: “Bobby, you realize what your dumb ass has done haven’t you?”

Bobby: “Yea, moved the needle with just one tweet. Shit, Sanford didn’t know what hit him.”

Me: “Your right, he moved the needle away from the incumbent, away from a known entity but not a sure thing, in a purple district so really I guess I should be thanking the dumb ass for his tweet, for opening the door a little wider for another shot a congressional seat for a Democrat.”

Bobby: “What are you talking about?”

Me: “The dumb ass even admitted in his last tweet that, hold-on, ‘My political representatives didn’t want me to get involved in the Mark Sanford primary’. Yea, there you go, basically his people told him to keep his nose out of it. But Mark hurt the big orange’s feelings and you know how big his feelings are. So yea, thanks dumb ass for moving the needle.”

Bobby: “You’re full of shit.”

Me: “We’ll see in November.”

This was the Trump tweet that “moved the needle” against Mark Sanford; “Mark Sanford has been very unhelpful to me in my campaign to MAGA. He is MIA and nothing but trouble. He is better off in Argentina. I fully endorse Katie Arrington for Congress in SC, a state I love. She is tough on crime and will continue our fight to lower taxes. VOTE Katie!”

Fox News referred to Mark Sanford as “anti-Trump” when, as Sanford noted if “you look at my actual voting record, I’ve been with the president 89 percent of the time … I love my brothers and sisters; doesn’t mean I agree with them 100 percent of the time.” But as we all know you are either with Trump 100% of time or you are his enemy and if you are his enemy then you are the enemy of Fox News and the Deplorables as well.

The TRUMP EFFECT has lowered the IQ of people like my friend Bobby. I keep hoping that he will wake-up soon but I am afraid he can’t and won’t. Not because he isn’t smart enough to cut through all the bull-shit but because he is too proud to admit he is wrong. As I have noted on several occasions, what will ultimately take Donald J. Trump down will be pride and ego. Collusion, obstruction of justice and fraud might be the charges but pride and ego will be the reason.

“There are two kinds of pride, both good and bad. ‘Good pride’ represents our dignity and self-respect. ‘Bad pride’ is the deadly sin of superiority that reeks of conceit and arrogance.” –  John C. Maxwell
