Who are you going to blame this time Mr. President?

I don’t even know where to begin. It’s just Tuesday, four weeks in and the Donald Trump administration is imploding. Now, I love a good political train wreck as much as the next guy but the problem with this one is the canvas. This isn’t a fight between two county councilmen trying to get a new fire station in their district or some Podunk sheriff flexing his muscle against the county administrator, this is a world stage, a big canvas, our well-being is affected by our President’s decisions, some would even say, given the threat of North Korea, our lives are as well.

So let’s start with thanking the Fake News outlet, The Washington Post, for “digging” up the story about President Trump’s national security adviser Mike Flynn and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak discussing sanctions prior to the inauguration and then lying about it. After Flynn was forced out in 2014 as the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, the The New York Times wrote that Flynn exhibited a loose relationship with the facts, leading his subordinates to refer to Flynn’s repeated dubious assertions as “Flynn facts”. Remember the term “vetting”, The New York Times did that for the President as it relates to his nomination of Mike Flynn but apparently that was Fake News too.

If you read Mike Flynn’s resignation letter, and cut through all of the “Donald Trump will be the greatest President ever bullshit” here is the most telling sentence; “Unfortunately, because of the fast pace of events, I inadvertently briefed the Vice President Elect and others with incomplete information regarding my phone calls with the Russian Ambassador.” What has worried me from the very beginning about our current administration is the “fast pace of events” and I wonder why. Why is it necessary to move at warp speed when I know very little, if any, thought has been put into the ultimate goals of his Executive Orders other shoring up his marketing slogan of “Make America Great Again”.

And then we have Kellyanne Conway, Donald Trump’s blonde pit bull, who said Monday that Flynn had the full confidence of the President on MSNBC with her little I am smarter than you are smirk. This morning, at 7 am, bright and early on the Today Show the smirk was gone, and it was apparent that the President had pushed her out the door with one directive, spin, spin. The stress on her face was palpable.  

“The powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.” This was our President’s tweet response after his Senior Advisor’s Sunday morning news tour; “Congratulations Stephen Miller- on representing me this morning on the various Sunday morning shows. Great job!” Honestly, I have underwear older than this kid. This is the same guy that made the unsubstantiated claims, on Sunday, that there was significant voter fraud in the presidential election and that “thousands of illegal voters were bused in” to New Hampshire. He has refused to provide any evidence to support his accusations and why would he, his boss believes it so it has to be true.

What a circus and this is just the first act. Get your popcorn, cotton candy, grab your wallet and hold on. It looks like it’s going to be a very bumpy ride.
